Am I Eligible?

You must be unemployed and

  • Available for work - you are willing to accept any full-time work that is suitable.
  • Able to work - you are physically and mentally able to do full-time work that you have performed in the past or have been trained for.
  • Actively seeking suitable full-time work.
  • Unless instructed otherwise by UIA staff, you must also register for work at Pure Michigan Talent Connect and visit Michigan Works! Agency (MWA) service center.  

What do I need to file my claim?

  • Your social security number
  • A mailing address, including zip code and county
  • Your driver's license or state ID number
  • The names and addresses of all your employers during the past 18 months
  • The dates of employment and wages paid by each employer during the past 18 months
  • If you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, your alien registration number and the expiration date of your work authorization
  • Your personal identification number (PIN) from any past unemployment claims

How to apply for Unemployment Insurance Benefits? 

File Online:

  • Go to the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). 
  • Create a login name and password. 
  • Be asked a series of questions. Yellow answer fields indicate required answers.
