Duties

As the Pilot (Aviation Trainer) you will be performing the following duties :

Pilots fixed-wing single engine aircraft using either wheels, skis, or floats for the conduct of resource surveys, resource and visitor protection patrols, flying supplies, equipment, and personnel.

Typical assignments require the incumbent to operate single engine aircraft in low level flight (below 500 ft agl), conduct off-airport landings in isolated areas on unprepared sites;

including beaches, tidal flats, lakes, rivers, gravel bars, and tundra ridges of restricted size.

Develops pilot training syllabuses, identifies pilot training needs, and executes pilot training for all missions including low level surveys, resource surveys, emergency maneuvers, off-airport operations, aircraft make and model checkouts, floatplane operations, and cold weather / ski flying.

Works closely with Department of the Interior Office of Aviation Services (OAS) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Provides aviation support for activities such as the following : transport of people and cargo; establishment and resupply of remote field camps, hunting and subsistence activities monitoring, wildlife and natural resource data collection, search and rescue missions, assist with law enforcement patrols, wildfire operations support and other aviation activities as directed.

Physical Demands : Duties include office work with frequent trips to all parts of Alaska for field work, flighttraining, monitoring mentor pilots, and conducting safety classes.

Intense concentration isnecessary for extended periods while flying and may involve physical discomfort due to sittingin cramped quarters in noisy small aircraft.
