Who We Are
Join our Elevator Support Unit (ESU)! The position will support contracted skilled trades work on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators and their systems on U.
S. Navy ships. The selected candidate will support ESU by performing a variety of skilled trades, maintenance and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems and associated equipment, including aircraft elevators, weapons elevators and vertical stores conveyors.
Work includes daily activities of physical labor in an industrial and shipboard environment. Travel within and outside of the continental United States may be required.
What You Will Do
- Provides welding support certified in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) or Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).on Plate or Pipe
- Uses Brazing and / or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Ensures shop safety and housekeeping are followed
- Ensures all materials and equipment are properly and safely stored, protected, and maintained
- Recognizes, set ups, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
What You Must Have
- Must have High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DBIDS badge, Security Clearance, and must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to read blueprints, technical manuals and / or related technical documents.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed oral and written instructions, schematics or drawings, and to conduct activities in a safe manner.
- Must be able to calibrate, and make minor repairs on tools / equipment.
- Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedure appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
Preferred : Bonus Points For...
- 4 - 8 years experience as a Production Welder preferred.
- Production welder experience while in the Navy or working as a civilian production welder supporting Navy ship repair or new construction
- Completion of a formal course of Vocational or Navy welding training and certification
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Summary : This position welds metal components together to design specifications or repair products, such as machine parts, shipboard equipment, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using SWRMC approved welding and brazing procedures with a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provides welding support certified in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and Gas Metal Arc Welding Pulse (GMAW-P) using 5356 filler wire.
- Uses hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.

Summary / Objective : Pipe Welders II join pipes. valves and fitting components as specified by layout, prints, diagrams, work orders, or verbal instructions, using hand and powered hand tools, and welding equipment.
They must be familiar with OSHA requirements for safety and hot work onboard naval vessels.
Duties include, but are not limited to :
- Successfully completion pipe welding qualification requirements using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) in the restricted 6G position on ferrous and nonferrous materials.
- Setup and adjust various welding equipment and associated accessories.
- Ability to interpret welding symbols-based on the AWS Welding Symbols.
- Familiarity with the workmanship requirements of the following :
- MIL-STD-22, Welded Joint Design,
- S9074-AR-GIB-010 278, Requirements for Fabrication Welding and Inspection, and Casting Inspection and Repair for Machinery, Piping, and Pressure Vessels
