Sr. Space Vehicle Electronics Engineer, Kuiper Solutions Engineering Team

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

The Kuiper Solutions Engineering team (KSET) is a multi-disciplinary technology team involved in developing and delivering targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. The Solutions Engineering team works closely with the core Kuiper team, and addresses the needs of specific customers (such as government agencies).

The Senior Bus Avionics Engineer will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to design, integrate, and test innovative product solutions. They will work closely with colleagues throughout Project Kuiper’s inter-disciplinary team, and collaborate with key partners and suppliers, in order to ensure our system exceeds customer expectations. The Bus Avionics engineer must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

As a member of KSET, the Senior Bus Avionics engineer will be responsible for new designs, analyses, trade studies, technology on-ramping, implementation and modification of Kuiper products, integration, verification, and validation of one or more of the following: the satellite bus, hosted payloads, interfacing with custom ground terminals, or custom user terminals. This includes testing, analyzing, and optimizing the particular satellite or ground element being developed, and ensuring that it meets the needs of the specific customer and/or target application.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working on large-scale programs with a diverse set of talented individuals, as well as with partner organizations (including government agencies).






Key job responsibilities
  • Applied system engineering with strength in bus avionics and electronics focus
  • Experience with space platform electronic subsystem architecture, specification, design, integration, and testing
  • Knowledge of space environment
  • Experience designing and analyzing electronic circuits
  • Hands-on experience testing electronic subsystems
  • Create test algorithms, scripts, and calibration routines as part of performing evaluation of integrated payloads or sub-systems
  • Analyze test data and engage with Kuiper, customers, suppliers, or partners evaluating product performance to provide feedback on improvements
  • Prepare reports documenting test results, test coverage and other KPI metrics, and communicate issues effectively with developers and managers.
  • Experience with business development, capture, and program execution
  • Critical thinker with prudent risk tolerance to balance technology with requirements, cost, and schedule
  • Competitive spirit accepting of challenges with a willingness to learn from mistakes, and mentor
  • Proven ability to work in a small team environment
  • Strong written and oral communication with experience presenting in technical meetings

The Sr. Software Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems for space. The work at the intersection of software engineering and systems engineering, focusing on the entire lifecycle of software development, from requirements analysis to testing and deployment.

The Sr. Software Systems Engineer will collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to understand the functional and non-functional requirements of a system, and then designing and implementing a software solution engaging with the software team that meets those requirements. They are primarily responsible for architectures, defining and designing the functional approach to software operational including the interfaces between hardware elements.

The Sr. Software Systems Engineer may also be responsible for guiding the software development process, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. They may work on a wide range of software systems, and embedded systems employing various devices for ground and space segments.
