The Kuiper Solutions Engineering team is a multi-disciplinary technology team involved in developing and delivering targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. The Solutions Engineering team works closely with the core Kuiper team, and addresses the needs of specific customers (such as government agencies). The Mechanical Engineer will deliver innovative and fast-paced design, analysis and/or test solutions at both the satellite system and sub-system level.

The Mechanical Engineer will have an outstanding background in one or more of the following: space vehicle design, analysis, and electro-mechanical systems integration and test. The ideal candidate has experience making major optimization trades for satellite bus architectures including integration with payload subsystems. This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines superb technical and analytical capabilities to convert analytic trade studies to a qualified physical vehicle, while meeting cross discipline requirements. The candidate will have a sharp focus on the specific needs of the customer effectively show that proposed solutions will meet the customer’s goals.

  • Interact directly with customers to understand technical requirements, and translate them into technically robust solutions backed by data and analysis
  • Mechanical Analysis Engineer: Conduct or oversee static, dynamic and modal structural analysis via finite element methods as needed to support design work and to demonstrate that technical solutions will meet the needs of the customer’s mission and application

The Kuiper Solutions Engineering team is a multi-disciplinary technology team involved in developing and delivering targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications, including United States and allied government customers. We provide software for both applications and the underlying Linux . We work hand in hand with hardware, product and operations teams to deliver a great experience for our customers.
This role is responsible for designing, building out, and maintaining critical APIs and interfaces to link Kuiper capabilities to US Government customers such as NASA, DoD, and others. You will develop forward-looking software services for mission critical space safety and sustainability applications which will automatically coordinate with external systems and organizations rapidly, reliably, and at scale.
You will develop system software for the networking stack on microprocessors and merchant chips to make routing/switching and packet forwarding
decisions for the satellite and the ground systems.



Key job responsibilities
As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for identifying top level requirements and participate in all phases of system software development, from concept and design to development and maintenance. You will work with other members of the Kuiper team to support networking hardware bring-up and debug, and develop both prototype and production software. You must be comfortable leading software and architecture design reviews, ensuring Amazon’s high development standards are met and team best practices are followed.
  • You will work on design, implementation, and testing of the networking stack on microprocessors
  • Develop and troubleshoot in a Linux environment
  • Develop and/or support software for networking HW
  • Good networking foundational knowledge (LANs, routing, switching, wireless)
  • Knowledge of SDN, IP protocols, TCP/UDP, NAT, and bridge/routing networking protocols
  • Knowledge of Linux Dataplane features such as DPDK and eBPF
  • Write software in C/C++ or Rust and make code changes for L2/L3 forwarding and feature development with commercial packet processing ASICs and fix problems found in systems test and solution tests.
Write software in C++/Java/Python for SDN controller in the Cloud & Desktop environment

As a lead on the Embedded software engineering team you will be responsible for leading the design of system software for networking infrastructure. You will work in a collaborative environment with teams inside and outside of Amazon. You will mentor a team of software engineers on best practices while you guide your software designs from requirements gathering through mass production. The Kuiper Solutions Engineering team is a multi-disciplinary technology team involved in developing and delivering targeted solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. The Solutions Engineering team works closely with the core Kuiper team, and addresses the needs of specific customers (such as government agencies). The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the team delivering innovative and fast-paced analysis and design solutions.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a member of the Solutions Engineering team, focusing on satellite system level analysis as well as on EMI/EMC analysis and the design of the various sensing and control needs (inertial, optical, solar, etc.) of the satellite system. They will be expected to lead a variety of tasks, from board design and component selection, to layout review and board bring-up and test. They will work across teams and support fellow engineers with design reviews and the preparation of joint reports and proposals. The candidate will have a sharp focus on the specific needs of the customer and be able to conduct trades and analyses to show that proposed solutions will meet the customer’s goals.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working on complex programs with a diverse set of talented individuals, as well as with partner organizations (including government agencies). The candidate will exhibit the potential to lead small sub-teams of electrical engineers, and be able to prepare easy-to-read and technically compelling written reports.

Key job responsibilities
  • Interact directly with customers to understand technical requirements, and translate them into technically robust solutions backed by data and analysis
  • Responsible for any electrical and power accommodations for hosting sensitive RF and communications payloads on a commercial bus, including EMI/EMC evaluation
  • Identify top level customer requirements and ensure high quality and innovative designs are pursued
  • Perform electrical design and layout trade studies for satellite electrical and power sub-systems contributing to overall system architecture including inputs and requirements from cross discipline teams
  • Mechanical, RF, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test
  • Facilitate cost trades on multiple parallel configurations for cost/manufacturability vs design uncertainty
  • Deliver well-written documentation, reports, and presentations for technical design reviews and as part of proposal efforts
  • Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware.
