Summary :

Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officer’sduties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity,providing security for patients, Associates and visitors,protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets and premisesas assigned.

The Armed Security Officer is responsible forresponding to all emergency codes, internal / external disasterevents as needed and / or requested, conducting preliminaryinvestigations of reported incidents, and performing other securityrelated tasks as directed by a security supervisor / and or Manager.

The Armed Security Officer must have flexibility in hours and beable to rotate between facilities including travel whenevernecessary.

• Conducts frequent securitypatrols of the facilities and grounds asassigned.
• Identifies and reports trendsrelated to security issues. Recommendsactions.
• Takes initial information for anincident report, uses proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, notesonly the facts, leaving out personal opinions and submits a reportin a timely manner (no later than the end of assignedshift).
• Responds promptly to all servicerequests relayed by the supervisor, telephone, pass-on, e-mail,radio, cell phone and other correspondence in a courteous andexpeditious manner.
• Responds to thecollection, inventory, and return of lost and found items, patientvaluables, medication, and personal property according topolicy.
• Enforces all rules, regulations,policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and the laws of theState of Texas.
• Controls and enforces facilityparking through the use of patrols, violation warning citations,towing, booting and explanation of rules asapplicable.
• Assists clinical / non-clinicalAssociates with combative patients orvisitors.
• Demonstrates competence to performassigned client care responsibilities in a way that meets theage-specific and developmental needs of persons served by thedepartment.
• Demonstrates proficiency andknowledge in the operation of the Attendant Console, Paging System,security radio / dispatch system, operations of the Digital VideoRecorder (NVR) security monitors (CCTV) and the general overheadpaging system.
• Must be proficient with the useof a PC to generate electronic daily activity security reports,incident reports, emails and other applicable electroniccorrespondence during the performance ofduties.
• Promotes a safe environment byreporting safety hazards observed (broken water / sprinkler lines,burned out internal / external lighting, smoke / gas odors, trippinghazards, etc.

during the performance of securityrounds.

• Appropriately adapts assigned clientassessment, treatment and / or care methods to accommodate thephysical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs ofeach person served.
• Demonstrates adherence tothe CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.

Requirements :

• High school diploma or its equivalentrequired.
• Must have the ability to interactappropriately with all staff, patients and visitors, especiallyunder difficult circumstances.
• Must bementally alert at all times

• Must beable to make immediate decisions with regard to laws, policies andprocedures.
• Must have / maintain valid motorvehicle license.

• CHRISTUS Approveduniforms must be worn in accordance with dress coderequirements.
• Prefer minimum two (2) years ofarmed security experience (may substituted by Honorable MilitaryService).
• Law enforcement experiencepreferred.
• Previous healthcare securityexperience preferred.
• Level 3 Certification(Texas).
• For positions in thestate of Texas, an active level three security officer commissionwith the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau(TDPSPSB) is required.
• New hires in Texas whohave completed the security commission course with (TDPSPSB) mustobtain their security commission prior to date of hire and;

1) theofficer’s commission card is active 2) the officer’s commissioncard is in the possession of the security officer 3) the CHRISTUSVice President of Security has issued a letter of authorization tocarry an assigned CHRISTUS Health Security weapon while on duty tothe officer.

New hires in New Mexico who havecompleted the New Mexico Private Investigations Advisory Boardlevel three training requirements must be eligible to process andobtain their security commission prior to date of hire and;

1) theofficer’s commission card is active 2) the officer’s commissioncard is in the possession of the security officer 3) the CHRISTUSVice President of Security has issued a letter of authorization tocarry an assigned CHRISTUS Health Security weapon while on duty tothe officer.

• New hires in Louisiana may notwear their weapon on duty until they have completed 40 hours oftraining and the CHRISTUS Vice President of Security has issued aletter of authorization to carry a CHRISTUS Health Securityassigned weapon while on duty to the officer.
• Verbal De-escalation training must be completed within 60 days ofhire.
• Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS)within 60 days of hire from the American HeartAssociation.
• Expandable Baton training,defensive tactics training, firearms training, weaponqualification, and firearms retention training must be completedprior to letter of authorization to carry isissued.
• IAHSS Basic Security Certificationmust be completed within one year of full timeemployment.
• Successful completion of allpre-employment and post offer assessments to include the MinnesotaMultiphasic Personality Inventory -2 (MMPI-2-RF-PCIR);

theCalifornia Psychological Inventory (CPI); the Police and PublicSafety Selection Report (PPSSR); the Personal Experience Inventory(PEI) and a clinical interview by a third personalpsychologist.

The Security Officer III is responsible for maintaining a secure and protective environment at the San Antonio State Supported Living Center by observing and taking action and reporting incidents or security violations involving the residents and initiating emergency response as appropriate.

Monitors alarms and surveillance cameras, patrols the buildings and grounds, checks badges or proper identification at facility gate / entrance, and handles after-hours emergency calls that would enhance the safety of facility residents, employees, and visitors.

Responsible for the dissemination and coordination of emergency responses and information, and notification to facility management and law enforcement if appropriate, in the event of emergency and / or security violation situations.

Performs monthly fire extinguisher inspections in all buildings. Identifies unfamiliar persons on campus and within the homes / buildings as captured on surveillance cameras and during routine patrols.

Ensures appropriate lighting for the safety of residents, staff, and visitors. May train other security officers. Works at a facility serving individuals who have complex needs and who may exhibit aggressive and / or self-injurious behaviors.

Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Completion of work requires the use of established methods and / or techniques and decisions are varied but based on well-defined guidelines.
