Duties, Responsibilities & Other

This Project Manager role will support our structures group in Florida. This person will manage bridge design projects and be responsible for bridge design, plan production, QA / QC, field inspections and managing the project team.

Skills, Duties & Responsibilities

Multi-tasker with ability to perform bridge and miscellaneous transportation structures design and development of construction drawings for concrete, wood, and steel bridge structures.

Must be able to develop own construction plans using AutoCAD and / or MicroStation. Will lead junior staff and work with other disciplines.

Able to use Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam / Adobe. Experience with Autodesk Revit and RISA is preferred.

  • Perform post-design services including field inspections during construction.
  • Provide mentoring, technical development, and general oversight of junior staff.
  • QA / QC calculations, drawings, reports, and other documentation produced by others to ensure accuracy and code compliance.
  • Plan workload, track and meet budgets for structural tasks / projects.
  • Maintain existing client relationships.
  • Good problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills are required. A solid background of reliability, commitment to task and project completion and success is required.

Preferred Experience & Degrees / Licenses

  • Structural Engineer with at least 5 years of experience (10 years preferred) using bridge / structural design software, AutoCAD and / or MicroStation.
  • Must have field experience and ability to work with clients, contractors, and other disciplines.
  • Experience working on all phases of design as well as provided construction administration / bid phase services.

Must have a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited school. Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 - 12 years of professional experience.
  • Appropriate professional certification preferred.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

  • Mentor and train staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships by soliciting monthly performance feedback, identifying client needs, and identifying the next project

  • Propose and negotiate scope, schedule and fee estimate for tasks and projects

  • Ensure that any scope, schedule, cost or change of terms are handled in accordance with established AVI-SPL change order procedures.
  • Gather and supply AVI-SPL Service teams with applicable close-out documentation for future reference.

Summary

The Project Manager oversees all aspects of the project and is responsible for co-ordination and completion of the project and to this end will perform a variety of tasks.

Tasks include analyzing drawings, specifications and addenda, setting deadlines, establishing schedules, procuring materials, tools & equipment, and monitoring and documenting progress of the project.

The Project Manager may be responsible for more than one project at a time.

Essential Functions

  • Attend weekly sales meetings to review the status of new and completed bids and to receive new assignments.
  • Promote the company by attending trade association functions and cultivates customer relations through various means such as lunches, golf, fishing / hunting outings and personal visits.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and forward minutes and pertinent information to the estimation team.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications and addenda to determine full scope of work. Anticipates jobsite working conditions such as working heights and difficulty of material installation and reviews take-offs and pricing worksheets with estimation team as required.
  • Prepare detailed standardized quote letters and bids out to prime bidders.
  • Follow up on bids by contacting customers to determine competitiveness of bid, to analyze possible scope differences with competition and to determine customer’s needs.

Log all bid follow ups with customers in the Alpha Sales database including bid tabs and scope of work included / excluded with other company’s bids.

  • Work with Alpha sales rep to negotiate price and scope of work included in bid.
  • Perform job file set-ups when awarded the bid. Mark and print plans and forwards to Production department with job file set-up and a written explanation of scope of work included in contract.
  • Review contract verifying scope and contractor conditions. Mark up a copy of the contract with notes as necessary and forwards to Operations for review : upon approval, forwards to Sales for review and execution.
  • Prepare submittals and forward to the contractor for review and approval : upon approval, forward approved submittals to production and purchasing.

Address concerns and questions with General Superintendent.

  • Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work, discussing and preparing change orders as they occur, comparing & selecting vendors, manufacturers and sub-contractors to determine cost effectiveness.
  • Confer with Production team to assess requirements regarding scheduling, manpower, materials, deliveries, equipment and machinery, and logistics at the start of a project or for each new scope of work.
  • Confer with manufacturer representatives, lift and scaffold suppliers and general contractor Superintendent to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Research the technology and materials used to comprehend questions from architects and contractors.
  • Conduct job site visits. Attend weekly job-site meetings. Inspect job for progress, scheduling updates, material and proper manpower requirements.

Inspect work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.

Review information with assigned Superintendent.

Interface with general contractor or customer to address questions or concerns with application procedures, scheduling or quality of work.

Initiate timely documentation to the contractor concerning job site conditions and issues in order to prevent conflict or delay.

  • Consult with clients, vendors or other individuals to discuss and resolve issues.
  • Anticipate and catch deviations from the plan or schedule early and minimize our exposure and risk on projects by taking immediate corrective action.

Prepare or review reports on progress, materials required, production rates, and job site visits. Document progress, problems, field issues and concerns through written and photo documentation.

  • Attend and contribute to weekly production meetings.
  • Assist General Superintendent in monthly billing projections and evaluate billings vs. job costing / set-up.
  • Follow up with clients, when necessary, regarding unpaid invoices.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels and provide comprehensive weekly project status reports
  • Identify, escalate, resolve issues
  • Create, track and own budgets including actuals and forecasts
  • Risk management : identify risks and develop actionable mitigation plans
  • Strong knowledge of full life cycle SDLCs and methodologies including Agile, Scrum, Iterative and Waterfall
  • Create and actively manage a project plan with tasks, milestones, dependencies and due dates
  • Actively manage all aspects of external client communication for assigned project(s)
  • Adapt to changing processes and a growing organization
  • Work under pressure and manage priorities appropriately
  • Conduct executive level status meetings both internal and external
  • Experience with standard project management tools such as Atlassian suite (Jira, Tempo, Confluence)
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills and experience with complex multi-faceted projects
  • Prioritize the value-add activities that will result in meeting the project objectives and staying in scope

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in finance or technology space
  • 5+ years of full life cycle project management in technology with proven ability to deliver results according to specified scope, budget and timeline
  • 5+ years with industry standard project management tools, methodologies and best practices

  • Financial services industry knowledge / experience and working in a matrixed (shared resources) environment
