Duties, Responsibilities & Other

This Project Manager role will support our structures group in Florida. This person will manage bridge design projects and be responsible for bridge design, plan production, QA / QC, field inspections and managing the project team.

Skills, Duties & Responsibilities

Multi-tasker with ability to perform bridge and miscellaneous transportation structures design and development of construction drawings for concrete, wood, and steel bridge structures.

Must be able to develop own construction plans using AutoCAD and / or MicroStation. Will lead junior staff and work with other disciplines.

Able to use Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam / Adobe. Experience with Autodesk Revit and RISA is preferred.

  • Perform post-design services including field inspections during construction.
  • Provide mentoring, technical development, and general oversight of junior staff.
  • QA / QC calculations, drawings, reports, and other documentation produced by others to ensure accuracy and code compliance.
  • Plan workload, track and meet budgets for structural tasks / projects.
  • Maintain existing client relationships.
  • Good problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills are required. A solid background of reliability, commitment to task and project completion and success is required.

Preferred Experience & Degrees / Licenses

  • Structural Engineer with at least 5 years of experience (10 years preferred) using bridge / structural design software, AutoCAD and / or MicroStation.
  • Must have field experience and ability to work with clients, contractors, and other disciplines.
  • Experience working on all phases of design as well as provided construction administration / bid phase services.

Must have a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited school. Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 - 12 years of professional experience.
  • Appropriate professional certification preferred.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Mentor and train staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships by soliciting monthly performance feedback, identifying client needs, and identifying the next project
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
  • Complete other duties as required / assigned
  • Provide input to develop project-specific safety plans and implement project safety plans and ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations
  • Report monthly proposal results to operations manager
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(75%-80% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects / tasks
  • Chart and provide project performance results
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Deliver all projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Ensure effective use of equipment and personnel
  • Meet monthly(or more frequently as necessary) with project analyst to review project invoices
  • Meet monthly with practice leader to review project performance
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Prepare and submit monthly project completion report
  • Prepare interpractice agreements and / or outside requests as required
  • Prepare monthly progress reports for all projects
  • Prepare monthly project staff utilization plan
  • Propose and negotiate scope, schedule and fee estimate for tasks and projects
  • Provide bi-weekly percent complete data to project assistant
  • Provide monthly project updates to practice leader
  • Provide monthly WIP / AR comments to the operations manager
  • Provide technical project and staff oversight
  • Provide weekly new project budget data to the practice leader
  • Serve as project or task manager on select projects
  • Compare field data to design plans
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
  • Read and interpret technical documents required for project execution

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • Must have experience in Pennsylvania managing basic contracts, fee estimation, project set-up and execution of work. Must have an understanding of the Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data as outlined in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 38-02 .
  • Good communication, supervisory and mentoring skills, reliable, attention to details and accuracy are necessary. Valid driver's license required to travel as needed to project sites.
  • Target candidate will be responsible for developing / mentoring junior field staff in learning all aspects of the SUE process and promoting a team environment.

This will require working in the field at various times and assisting field crews in their daily duties.

Target candidate will be responsible for assisting leadership in client meetings and presentations to continue developing growth of the business outside of existing clients.

Under general direction of the Practice Leader, independently performs professional planning tasks.

Typical functions include, but are not limited to :

  • Performs and manages complex and sensitive professional planning projects, research and analysis
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws
  • Advises various councils, boards, commissions and elected officials in planning-related issues
  • Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, tax base data, and occupancy rates
  • Evaluates rezonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances and other proposals
  • Acts as liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing neighborhood plans
  • Coordinates community review of public and private development projects
  • Provides information to the public regarding development regulations
  • Utilizes ArcGIS and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
  • Creates technical documents
  • Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and / or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans
  • Presents at community meetings and conducts community engagement activities
  • Researches funding sources and writes grant proposals

  • AICP certification
