Job Summary
The Lead Clinic Medical Assistant works under the Clinical Nurse Manager to maintain efficient participant flow and quality care during clinic hours.
This position assists the manager in training new staff. The Lead Clinic Medical Assistant also performs administrative and other general duties to support overall clinic functions.
Physical attendance at an InnovAge facility and / or an InnovAge participant home is essential to performing the job duties.
Essential Functions and Work Responsibilities

- Manages scheduling template and alters it accordingly to meet participant and provider needs.
- Assigns daily schedules of participant care for clinic personnel. Assist with clinic scheduling problem-solving, participant wait times, and other areas of concern to increase efficiency and quality services.
- Assigns meals and breaks to ensure appropriate coverage in the clinic.
- Directs participant flow. Assists other clinic staff to maintain participant flow.
- Assists the Clinic Nurse Manager with orientation and training of new and existing staff.
- Assists in the supervision of work and performance of clinic support staff, including reception, medical assistants, and other support staff, as instructed, including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed.
- Work collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve participant outcomes. Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities to improve systems and services.
- Monitors internal and external customer service and ensures quality customer service for all participants.
- Coordinates the inventory, ordering, and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies for the clinic. Ensures delivery schedules reflect the current needs and documents incoming and outgoing supplies.
Monitors all supplies for outdates and takes steps to ensure supplies are not expired.
- Assists with overall monitoring of clinic environment to ensure regulatory requirements pertaining to environment of care and infection prevention are always maintained.
- Utilizes iScrub application to assist in monitoring hand hygiene within the clinic.
- Maintains a neat and orderly clinical work area to include ensuring individual clinic rooms are clean and safe for participants, visitors, and staff.
- Tasks emergency and extra duties daily to the MAs per participant needs.
- Attends the center’s daily Morning Meeting. Actively participates with recommendations for improving participant care and reports relevant information daily to ADHC CNAs
- Performs other administrative tasks and clinical care assigned by the Clinic Nurse Manager.

- Provides back-up support for the medical assistant(s) including all medical assistant functions.
- Performs EMR documentation to update participant information and any other necessary documentation in medical records.
- Takes the participants’ vital signs and performs the collection of specimens, including phlebotomy, finger sticks, and pulse oximetry as requested by medical staff.
Reports abnormal findings and changes to the Registered Nurse.
- Ensures that all lab specimens are labeled correctly and ready for the courier to pick up promptly.
- Prepares participants to be seen in the clinic by assisting them in disrobing and positioning them in beds, chairs, or exam tables.
Ensures that participants are ready to be seen by nurses and providers in an appropriate state.
Assists providers and nurses with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments in which they have been trained and completed competency.
May assist in medical procedures as requested by staff within skill and ability.
- Assists in the preparation of medications, inhalers, eye drops, injections, etc., to participants, depending on qualifications and site requirements, under the supervision of the LPN / LVN or RN as applicable.
- Assists with scheduling necessary internal and external specialist appointments for participants when requested.
- Participates within the interdisciplinary team in the formulation of Care Plans for participants and in other interdisciplinary team settings that plan, coordinate, and monitor the care of participants.

REQUIRED
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program displaying the areas of practice and competencies for the occupation of Medical Assistant.
Licensure, Certification, Registration, or Designation
Qualified Medication Administration Person (QMAP) status in good standing.
Work Experience and Qualifications
- A minimum of three years’ related experience. One year of working with the frail or elderly is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy functions.
- Skilled in identifying and recommending problem resolution.
- Ability to perform EKGs.

Medical Assistant
To assist physicians and professional nursing staff in providing care and treatment of patients. Assist front office staff as needed in patient registration, appointments, and record keeping.
To maintain and clean equipment, keep an inventory of supplies, and be responsible for ordering supplies.
The budgeted hourly range for the Medical Assistant is $23.57 to $29.27. We base placement within these ranges on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position.

Overview
As a member of the outpatient Bariatric health care team the Medical Assistant will work directly with the clinic team under the direct supervision of the Bariatric Clinic Coordinator, the Registered Nurse Bariatric Program Manager and / or the physician to support and ensure efficient operation of the Bariatric Clinic.
Responsibilities
The MA will support staff and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.
While caring for patients in an outpatient clinic setting will work to promote a safe, comfortable environment that fosters the physiological and psychosocial well-being of the patient.
Check-in patients, measure and document patient weight and vital signs. Conduct patient interview and document basic medical history.
Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician. Organize and schedule appointments.
Qualifications
1 year experience in outpatient setting, Bariatric specialty preferred. Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of California.
Current BLS certification. Strong organizational skills to maintain effective and timely patient flow. Strong time-management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
Service oriented and ability to work as a team member. Demonstrate excellent customer service and phone etiquette.
