Director of Finance

Full-time

We are currently seeking a Director of Finance to join our team. As a Director of Finance, you will be responsible for timely and accurate accounting and financial practices plans, makes course corrections, and assists business unit and project leaders to build solid plans for profitable delivery as well as acting as a operational finance partner with the leaders of the business units in your region.

Finance and Accounting

  • Business partner to the office management principal and leadership team in pursuing a profitable practice and profitable growth.
  • Works with appropriate business unit leaders to submit annual financial planning for the region.
  • Proactively manages and monitors all financial aspects of the practice to the annual plan, including project and overhead costs.
  • Assists in the forecasting of fees on a monthly basis.
  • Analyzes financial information and proactively brings trends to the attention of business unit and project leaders and other senior staff.

Looks for any underlying problems and assists in creating action plans if course correction is needed.

  • Creates or runs financial and staffing reports and distributes on a timely basis.
  • Sets expectations with Project Managers to ensure compliance of obtaining timely and fully executed client and consultant contracts.
  • Reviews executed project contracts and additional service requests to understand the financial requirements of each project.
  • Meets regularly with Project Managers to assist with project budgets and work plans. Proactively offers guidance in steps that will ensure project profitability on all jobs.
  • Trains Project Managers on company accounting practices as it relates to their role as a Project Manager.
  • Meets regularly with the firmwide Accounting Leadership Team to design and implement accounting and finance policies and procedures.
  • Assists with firmwide internal control activities to ensure all business units are following established procedures in accordance with GAAP.
  • Responsible for execution of projects assigned by CFO.

Staff Development

  • Supervises all accounting staff in the region sets standards and expectations, makes work assignments, monitors performance of individuals and the group, provides timely feedback.
  • Acts as mentor by coaching and motivating; fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust among members of the accounting group.
  • Prepares and delivers accounting staff evaluations; responsible for performance development and compensation decision-making of department.
  • Supports diversity and fosters continuing education.
  • Participates in interviews and recruiting of staff.
  • Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.

Required Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial-related reports.
  • Ability to create and communicate strategic plans and set direction.
  • Thorough understanding of client invoicing.
  • Ability to create and monitor budgets.
  • Ability to review contracts relating to fees.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or an equivalent required.
  • 10 plus years accounting experience required.
  • Project accounting experience in an architecture or related professional services firm highly preferred.

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The reasonably expected salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000.
