The Electrician Helper position is located in South Houston, in the Greater Hobby area.
Responsibilities of the Electrician Helper include, but are not limited to :
- The Electrician Helper is responsible for assisting electricians by performing tasks of on-the-job
- training under the supervision of a Journeyman or Master Electrician installing the work, acquiring the skills and
- knowledge of the trade and become a Journeyman Electrician.
- Attend job-related education instruction a minimum of one night per week for four hours.
- Work will consist of installation, maintaining, alternations, additions and / or repairs of or, extending electrical systems, conductors and associated materials equipment within the commercial, industrial, and residential
premises within the electrical industry.
- A minimum of 2,000 hours of on-the-job training is required in each year of Apprenticeship with a minimum 8,000 hours of on-the-job training to complete the program.
- Must attend a minimum of 144 hours of job related education instruction in each year of Apprenticeship training
- maintain a minimum passing grade of 70%. There is a minimum of 576 hours of job related education instruction to complete the program.
- Apprenticeship is a four year commitment. (Min. 8000 on-job-training / Min. 576 classroom hours.
- MUST HAVE own tools!

Job Summary :
In a safe, efficient, and professional manner the Electrician is responsible for delivering effective, efficient, and timely delivery of the Company’s line of services to multiple customers within an assigned geographic territory.
Is provided a company van and tools and travels to a variety of customer sites to maintain commercial properties. Performs preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on buildings, equipment and grounds Conducts face to face relationship with Customers in the service of the client’s requirements.
Utilizes multiple trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and roofing, HVAC, and other skills as needed to solve maintenance problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Completes preventative maintenance and repairs per work order requirements. Self performs the following duties in compliance company procedures, regulatory requirements and safety standards.
- Performs electrical maintenance (e.g. replace disconnects, replace breakers, add new circuits, troubleshoot electrical controls, etc.).
- Performs minor plumbing maintenance on existing systems (e.g. unclog toilets and drains, repair leaks in drains and faucets, replace toilets and faucet fixtures as needed, etc.).
- Performs routine painting, carpentry work, etc., as necessary to maintain our Client’s facilities in like new condition (e.
g. repair a hole in dry-wall, prep the area, and match the paint to present a uniform and original like new appearance).
Completes service inspections and asset inspections as needed.
Fully utilizes technology (tablet, smartphone) to :
Access and complete work orders including notes on services provided.Create and submit Service Reports and Quality Inspection images and reports.
Submit timesheets, expense reports, and purchase card logs.
- Obtains necessary materials and supplies to complete all tasks.
- Creates a positive climate with the client, provides and generates customer satisfaction. Maintains timely and consistent communications with customer and internal support teams.
- Obtains and completes EFS required safety and compliance training and attends weekly safety meetings.
- Provides estimates for larger projects and services needed to onsite customer.
- Completes other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications :
- HS diploma or Degree / Certification, or equivalent professional experience in Landscaping, Trades (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, etc), or Specialty Floor Care, preferred.
- Two to five years mechanical experience, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry required; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described including related work experience in one or more of the building trades.
Knowledge of reading wiring diagrams and electrical schematics. Past background in the landscape, janitorial or construction-related services industries highly preferred.
- Must possess applicable certifications, licenses, and valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions including, but not limited to, safety policies and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in individual and small group situations.
Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner and communicate work order status via designated business process.
Ability to use and operate handheld device and business systems or document management Database software, including but not limited to Microsoft office, Lotus Notes, MS office (word, Excel).
Comply with all applicable codes, regulation, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and work safety.
Performs assigned day-to-day repairs, emergency and preventive maintenance.
- Maintain adequate knowledge of and comply with OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act) standards and Company safety policies at all times.

PURPOSE OF DIVISION
The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, General Maintenance Services Business Unit it is to effectively deliver self-performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the Electrician is to troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing electromechanical systems to ensure an economical and safe distribution of electricity.
This position performs journeyman level electrical work by maintaining the terminal and various support buildings electrical distribution equipment, lighting systems, and various electrical devices on a daily basis in accordance with NEC, NFPA, and FAA Advisory Circulars.
This role acts as a first responder to emergency calls for various types of electrical failures and shutdowns. Responds to trouble calls involving troubleshooting of circuits, tripped breakers, overloaded circuits and repairs or replacement of system components.
Manages Airside and landside lighting for terminals, surrounding buildings, street pole lights and airfield lighting systems.
This position may be assigned duties at all Houston Airport System facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required."

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and / or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

No journey level experience is required.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSE
A valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required. Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
PREFERENCES
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
Preference will be given to applicants who have :
- A Journeyman Electrician License for 5+ years.
- The ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, schematics, and design specifications. Knowledge of National Electrical Codes and experience with electrical tools, meters, and materials and their uses in a commercial setting is preferred.
Experience in high voltage (15 KV), primary distribution and emergency generators, and commercial / industrial experience including control systems, preventative maintenance programs, UPS, and PLC.
Knowledge of airfield lighting materials and applications is a plus.
