Primary Purpose :

Conducts setup and operation of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment, inspects machined features to maintain quality, adjusts machine and changes perishable tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts safe and timely setup of CNC equipment using the Setup Checklist.
  • Edits CNC programs as required to attain optimal quality / quantity production.
  • Makes machine / tooling adjustments and CNC programming changes to bring non-conforming out-put into specifications.
  • Informs the Group Leader / Supervisor of any operating or material condition that would interfere with quality / quantity production.
  • Performs routine operator maintenance and operational checks on all tools and equipment utilized, to include : tool sharpening, machine oiling, fluid level / air pressure checks, safety switch functioning etc.
  • Performs dimensional and attribute product inspections to ensure quality product is produced including 1st Article Inspection.
  • Conducts tool setup.
  • Changes perishable tooling that is worn or damaged.
  • Insures timely flow of parts through the machine shop by following set procedures. Makes suggestions for alternate responsibilities when application allows additional internal time.
  • Meets cycle time rates established for specific part numbers.
  • Reads and interprets machine shop blueprints.
  • Segregates and periodically disposes of scrap material into approved collection containers.
  • Operates material handling equipment when moving materials into, around, or out of the department.
  • Accurately uses measurement tools such as micrometers, verniers, height gage, bore gage, and attribute style gages.
  • Follows all 5S practices and supports lean activities, as well as safety regulations policies and procedures.
  • Trains operators to run jobs.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate a CNC Machine Equipment
  • Horizontal lathe and a Vertical mill.
  • VTL (vertical turning lathe) experience - is a plus not required.
  • Machine Equipment includes Mazak Lathes, Mills and Horizontal Machine Centers
  • Understands G code and or Mazatrol programming
  • Performs machine editing, understands and interprets part program readouts.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and / or verbal work instructions.
  • Ability to recognize, set up, and effectively uses general measuring instruments.
  • Ability to comprehend and utilize ISO manufacturing procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic computer operations and mathematical computation.
  • Ability to move or transfer products with overhead crane.
  • Flexibility with regard to job assignments.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds, if required

POSITION SUMMARY :

Safe operation of CNC boring mill and / or lathe as required by management to produce quality products efficiently and within specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Operate CNC machine to manufacture parts per CNC programs, drawings and / or instructions.
  • Setup material to be machined onto the work center accounting for all safety protocols.
  • Review CNC program output, part references, tooling and compare against drawings / router instructions to ensure correlation.
  • Evaluate complex setups for safety and effectiveness prior to beginning machining to reduce risk of injury and / or errors.
  • Using prior training, perform secure rigging techniques and test prior to lifting heavy parts. Do not assume.
  • Select all equipment and tooling required for the operation based on instructions / discussions and notify foreman / supervisor on any concerns that may arise.
  • Ensure all measuring equipment, company and personal, is calibrated prior to each use and notify QC department of any discrepancies.

Do not use nonconforming equipment.

  • Inspect all machined features and compare to drawing to ensure specified dimensions are met.
  • Perform minor program edits before and during machining when required to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operation to reduce risk of nonconformance or machine breakdown.
  • Assist other personnel if requested to do so to share knowledge and ideas on operational success.
  • Ensure all labor hours are accurately recorded by signing, scanning operations and time clocks as instructed.
  • Ensure work area is clear of all obstacles and clean any spills immediately to minimize risk of injury.
  • Follow company policy to wear supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing duties.
  • Return all non-essential equipment to the required storage location after each use.
  • Daily inspection and maintenance of fluid levels, filters, covers on machine and notify foreman / supervisor of any concerns.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Maintain good attendance and notify supervisor on absences.

Position Summary
