Overview
The Executive Chef possesses a passion for great food, providing culinary expertise and leadership to the team. They are responsible for the oversight of the culinary team and control a wide range of Food Service activities so as to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Food & Nutrition Services department while delivering a safe and exceptional dining experience to the patient / residents and guests.
Able to lead and engage a diverse team, providing the necessary training required for them to execute specific position requirements while assisting them to work toward their full potential.
May provide oversight of Department activities in the absence of the Director.
What you will do
Demonstrates performance with all aspects of human resource management of all food production and sanitation team including the hiring process (interviewing, orienting, and training) and performance management process (coaching, counseling, discipline and appraisals).
Provides focus to the on-boarding initiative by seeking out opportunities to engage new employees so as to reduce turnover.
Demonstrates commitment to customer service by empowering the team to reach meal / production accuracy and service excellence.
Responsible for providing culinary excellence, ensuring optimum food quality / presentation (from pre-preparation to plate presentation) with all patient / resident, guest, and team meal service and catering events.
In collaboration with System and Department Food & Nutrition Service management team, develops, tests and standardizes menus that meet nutritional requirements and provides patients / residents, guests and team an exceptional dining experience.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory and food sanitation and safety regulations as well as compliance with all and Riverside Health System and Food & Nutrition Service policies and procedures.
Demonstrates the ability to provide a safe, efficient and supportive environment for patients / residents and team members.
Identifies and acts to resolve variances or suspected noncompliance to management.
Develops schedules and workflow processes / assignments to ensure efficiency in kitchen operations as well as to ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet Department and Facility goals / budgets.
Assist in monitoring departmental productivity to meet the needs of the department (i.e. schedule / flexing of staff, meal counts, OT, vacations).
- Demonstrates the ability to manage departmental purchasing, receiving, and inventory management. Ensures GPO contract adherence and works in combination with the Food & Nutrition Services system team and facility Director to evaluate and select appropriate vendor items and partnerships.
- Senior Dining - Frequently rounds and meets regularly with residents to discuss concerns, dietary needs, and preferences, and in conjunction with the Activities Department plans special events (where applicable).
Develops and maintains working relationships with the healthcare team toward the goal of meeting and exceeding the resident experience.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree, Dietetics / Culinary Arts / Hotel / Restaurant Management or Food Services management (Required)
- Program Graduate, Certificate of completion from an accredited culinary trade school (2-4 year program) or ACFEI apprenticeship program (certificate 4-5 year program) (Preferred)
Experience
- 5-6 years Progressive and strong culinary and food management experience (Required)
- 7-10 years Food production management in country club, hotel, catering, or Continuing Care Resident Community (experience in lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree) (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
- Food Handlers Card (FH) - State Food Safety (Required)
- Servesafe Certification - National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation within 90 Days(Required)
- ServSafe Allergen within 180 Days (Required)

Job Summary :
Responsible for engaging, entertaining, interacting and providing a unique dining experience to guests. Primarily works in front of the restaurant while cooking and preparing hot meals on hibachi tables directly in front of guests.
Ensures correct food portions are being cooked and maintain the kitchen areas and hibachi tables clean and sanitized. Prepares and sets up food for cooking and side orders.
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 1-year experience in cooking strongly required.

Common Threads is seeking a dynamic teacher-who-can-cook or cook-who-can-teach
to work as a part-time Chef Instructor in the Pittsburgh, PA area. A Common Threads
Chef Instructor is the face of the organization, teaching hands-on cooking classes and
nutrition education to K-8th grade students, parents, and teachers in school kitchens
and community spaces and establishing relationships with schools, students, families,
and volunteers. Chef Instructors will teach in both virtual and in-person settings.
All lessons emphasize using fresh, quality ingredients and adopting healthy cooking and
eating habits. Each week features the cuisine of a different country or world region
and / or a nutrition lesson, with recipes and tastings of typical foods from different
cultures.
This is a part-time variable hour position that generally works 5-10 hours a week when
classes are in session. Some nights and / or weekends may be required.
Responsibilities :
Work with students in Kindergarten-8th grades and their parents, and manage a
classroom of up to 25 participants and four volunteers
Teach kids and parents cooking skills and nutrition; give students the tools to
make healthy choices
Communicate with school and partner organization staff and administration as
well as with Common Threads staff
Instructors will be trained on the curriculum, policies and procedures, and
administrative responsibilities
Instructors are required to follow the approved course curriculum, complete all
grocery shopping and submit required documentation
Administer pre-and post-surveys to students and families and manage paperwork
as needed
