  • Perform certified seam flange, edge, fillet and lap-fusion welding on various types of materials which are the same or nearly the same thickness at point of weld.
  • Weld fittings on tubing, ducts, tanks and other similar units.
  • Weld tanks, vessels, tubing, brackets, boxes, shelves and other assemblies which are subjected to high stress or pressures.
  • Be familiar with shop practice and assembly procedures to determine whether parts are fitted properly and meet specifications prior to welding.
  • Have fair knowledge of weld symbols and weld specs.
  • Performs rework, repair and other associated operations relating to the work described herein when such requirements are characteristic of the classification.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.

Position Summary

Mobile Intrack Welder is responsible for driving, operating, diagnosing, and maintaining a mobile electric flash-butt welding machine.

Completion of a welding program at an accredited institution may be substituted for each year of experience lacking up to a maximum of two years at a rate of 15 units in welding to one year of experience specified in Requirement #2.

PROCESS NOTES

  • A license as a certified Welder for Structural Steel issued by the Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety is required for all positions in the General Services Department, for most other positions in the City, and in the Department of Water and Power prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who lack six months or less of the required experience may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.
  • Applicants filing under Requirement #1 must submit an Apprenticeship Certificate at the time of filing. The copy of the Certificate must be attached to the online application BEFORE the application is submitted.
