A Specialist must evaluate equipment / components for necessary repairs, determine appropriate repair procedures and complete repairs as directed.
He / she must demonstrate knowledge of metals and proficiency with standard methods. He / she must read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints and perform repairs / fabrication as needed.
Duties may include the use of boring and / or bore welding equipment, as well as lathes, mills and / or other tools. The Specialist will maintain tools of the trade as required.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform repairs under direct departmental supervision.
- Possess tooling required by the service department.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs; Assist qualified technicians in repair tasks such as removal, installation and repair of components / machines.
- Be able to identify various materials.
- Understand the properties and be able to discuss any repair in terms of the materials and the most effective machining process to be used.
- Possess the ability to set-up and complete work orders on conventional Caterpillar equipment.
Wages
31.00 - 48.00
Starting wage will depend on experience and education. We also offer a total compensation package in addition to base salary.
Qualifications
One-year certificate or Associates degree from a community college or technical school; Two to four years industry experience or equivalent education and experience.
Build and bore experience a plus.

POSITION SUMMARY : Primarily responsible for welding on a variety of parts in accordance to specifications and blueprints.
May operate additional machinery and equipment to fabricate parts. Responsible for compliance to quality standards.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Starts power supply to produce electric current.
- Preheats work piece with torch when needed.
- Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt base metal to join edges of work piece.
- Manually guided TIG / MIG torch along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle.
- Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Welds in flat, horizontal and vertical positions.
- Responsible for fabricating a variety of parts in accordance to specifications and prints.
- Responsible for training and learning a variety or work stations by following training guidelines.
- Responsible for following all applicable safety / housekeeping guidelines. Performs necessary preventative maintenance.
- Responsible for following process sheets / work instructions, department area procedures on matters such as KANBAN and scrap / reprocessing.
Responsible for reporting on variety of matters such as safety and training. Performs necessary inspections and documents as necessary.
- May work on special projects / assignments upon request. Including other departments based on production needs.

What will you be doing as a Combination Welder?
Performs all manual welding necessary in production, maintenance and tooling as required, using the tungsten arc, arc, and oxygen-acetylene processes.
Performs all automatic fusion setup and welding operations.
Tacks seams and welding tabs on material from .015-.600.
Applies aluminum, bronze and other alloy buildup on dies, mandrels, fixtures, etc.
Performs such typical arc welding operations as the welding of jigs, fixtures, brake punches, tables, benches, and other miscellaneous maintenance welding as required.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need :
Must have the necessary training and background in manual tungsten arc to certify under MIL-T-5021 specification for welders (manual and automatic).
Must have the necessary training and background in the arc, and oxygen-acetylene processes to be capable of performing the average welding operations for the function to which assigned.
Must be familiar with various fixtures and accessory tooling necessary to accommodate the wide variety of variables in diameter, wall thickness, lengths, shapes, and alloys of Valley Metals products.
Have the ability to determine sequence of operations for welding process to be used, type of welding rod, gases, tungsten, etc.
to produce acceptable sound welds in all applications; and the ability to fabricate welding fixtures (production aids) and to improve existing tooling as necessary.
Performs the necessary maintenance work on automatic welder and related tooling to ensure equipment is in good working order.
Pay Range : $26.00 - $29.00 per hour (based on experience)
Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, Full-time, 40 hours per week

Description
Purpose : Weld product per specifications ensuring weld integrity and quality. Fits and assembles components according to prints or sketches to construct, rebuild and repair special machines and equipment.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Work from routings, prints, work list and / or verbal instructions to determine the scope of work and material to be used.
- Complete all steps required in the welding process according to specification.
- Determine appropriate fixture to be used for particular welding operation and follow written assembly procedures.
- May create and build tooling, jigs or fixtures.
- Review prints for type, sequence, location and number of welds to be made.
- Set up equipment and determine appropriate welding equipment settings to perform operation.
- Weld according to specifications required using a variety of welding processes.
- May cut and prepare materials to desired configuration.
- Straighten all warped parts after welding.
- Complete all finishing steps needed.
- Inspect, measure, and monitor parts for proper tolerance on an ongoing basis.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation on routings, prints, and sketches as required.
- May fit and assemble components according to specifications and tests to include :
- Aligning components for assembly.
- Verifying conformance and alignment of parts to prints using measuring instruments.
- May design, fabricate and modify parts as required including :
- Accurate lay-out of hole locations, drilling / tapping holes on parts for assembly.
- Set up and operation of metalworking machines to fabricate or modify parts.
- Clean, maintain and organize work area and all equipment.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- A related two-year post high school diploma / certificate and a minimum of one year of relevant experience or a high school diploma / GED and a minimum of two years relevant experience.
- Proficient in metal inert gas (MIG) and tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding on aluminum and steel, arc welding, use of oxy acetylene torches, and plasma cutting.
- Possess ability to perform set-ups using pertinent math skills.
- Possess the written, verbal, and interaction skills necessary to work both independently and cooperatively.

Wood is currently sourcing for a Welder I to join our team to work on a project in Bloomfield, New Mexico. You must also be capable of welding together components to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, pressure vessels, plant equipment, pipes, plates, and structural steel using various welding procedures.
