Lifeguards assigned to this position will be working as a lifeguard at a pool or lake.

Typical Tasks and Representative Duties

Not in order of importance)

  • Supervision of visitor use at a County aquatic facility or designated swim area, including pools and decks of swimming areas and other aquatic areas.
  • Enforcement of County policies and regulations.
  • Preventative life guarding, preventing accidents, and effecting rescues.
  • Providing basic first aid to the public.
  • Collecting user fees.
  • Distribution of information such as schedules and activities.
  • Monitoring of pool chemistry.
  • Aquatic site maintenance.
  • Helping prepare bulletin boards, awards and certificates.
  • May conduct swim lessons, aqua aerobics, and other similar activities and related duties such as promotion, scheduling, and development of aquatic related activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Licenses and Certificates

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer maintained throughout employment; Title 22 First Aid Certification must be obtained within one year of original lifeguard certification and maintained throughout employment.

EMT certification can be substituted for the CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Title 22 requirement

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Childcare, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for for implementing Camp activities for children ages three to ten years old;

to ensure a safe, clean, fun environment for children; execute the department’s established guidelines and standards.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Organize Campers ages three to ten years old
  • Provide a safe, clean environment including picking up toys, and wiping down equipment and counters, cleaning work spaces after activities such as art and lunch
  • Ensure that all campers are supervised at all times
  • Ensure that all items on the opening and closing operations checklists are completed
  • Greet parents and children with a smile; invite children to join activities
  • Ensure interaction with children at all times; ensure that all children are engaged with a special focus on older, shy and / or bored children;

comfort and assist all children in need

  • Organize and implement age-appropriate activities such as sports scrimmages, arts & crafts, and group games
  • Transfer campers to and from activities within the Club
  • Ensure children are treated with responsive respectfulness, i.e. coached vs. scolded; discuss behavior tactfully and out of range of child’s hearing
  • Communicate timely and follow up as appropriate

Special Requirements

The position(s) require(s) a(n) Registered Professional Forester’s License License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.

This position requires Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) Clearance prior to the incumbent being hired.

The incumbent may be required to wear respiratory protection equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

The use of such equipment may place a physiological burden on the incumbent that varies with the type of equipment used, the job and workplace conditions in which the equipment is used, and the medical status of the incumbent.

As such, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CalOSHA) requires that the incumbent be annually medically cleared to be fit-tested for respiratory protection equipment.

This clearance process consists of a comprehensive medical evaluation including a review of the incumbent’s medical history, a complete physical examination, and vision, hearing, spirometry, and exercise treadmill tests.

Duties involve field work requiring physical performance calling for above-average ability, endurance, and superior condition, including occasional demand for extraordinarily strenuous activities in emergencies, under adverse environmental conditions, and over extended periods of time;

requires running, walking, difficult climbing, jumping, twisting, bending and lifting over 25 pounds; and the pace of work is typically set by the emergency situation.
