Basic Requirements : United States Citizenship : Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training : Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
NOTE : VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are : Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME / AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Reference : VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook , Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. "Duties of the Physician : - Will collaborate within a comprehensive multi-disciplinary pain team to provide whole person care for Veterans with chronic pain.
- Work in a team setting with other Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Clinical Pharmacists, Physical Therapists, Registered Nurses, and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of the Veterans.
- Highly preferred competencies include basic outpatient procedures such as joint and trigger point injections. - Interventional pain management procedures as indicated and based on experience and training.
- Will collaborate with staff in surgery and radiology departments regarding scheduling and performing interventional pain management procedures.
- Provide prompt diagnostic assessment and evaluation, including full history and physical exam, appropriate labs, radiological imaging, consultations, documentation of the evaluation and appropriate coding for billing in progress notes, communication with admitting teams, and discharge planning on all patients - Confer with and serve as a consultant to other clinicians.
- Provide counseling to Veterans and families. - Typical work hours are Monday to Friday 8-4.30 PM, with rotating tours of duty as needed.
Alternative work hours, if desired, should be agreed upon at the time of employment. Each full-time provider is required to work a minimum of 80 hours per pay period (every two weeks) unless on leave status.
- Review all email and electronic communications prior to completing his / her duty shift - Complete and sign all electronic medical records and all orders prior to the completion of each duty shift.
Consistent with current medical staff by-laws, all transcribed electronic medical record documents must be signed within twenty-four hours of the encounter regardless of the duty schedule - Complete all patient encounters (note) within twenty-four hours of patient visit - Meet all performance goals VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Adv Practice Provider) will be responsible for collaborating with company physicians, the patient’s other physicians and providers, and their family members to develop complex plans of care in accordance with the patient’s health status and overall goals and values.

How will you make an impact :
- Provide medical services in a variety of settings to include : mobile outreach patient care, medical office patient evaluations, virtual home visits and telephonic care.
- Develop and implement clinical plans of care for adult patients facing chronic and complex conditions (e.g., co-morbid medical and mental health diagnoses, limited personal resources, chronic medical conditions.).
- Gather history and physical exam and diagnostics as needed, and then develops and implements treatment plans given the patient’s goals of care and current conditions.
- Meet the patient’s and family’s physical and psychosocial needs with support and input from the company’s inter-disciplinary team.
- Educate patients and families about medication usage, side effects, illness progression, diet and nutrition, medical adherence and crisis anticipation and prevention.
- Maintain contact with other clinical team members, patients’ other physicians and patients’ other medical providers to coordinate optimal care and resources for the patient and his or her family in a timely basis and consistent with state regulations and company health standards and policy.
- Maintain patient medical records and medical documentation consistent with state regulations and company standards and policy in an EMR system.

Minimum Requirements :
- Requires current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) license Or Physician Assistant (PA) license in the state of Iowa.
- Possession of DEA registration or eligibility required.
- CPR certification required.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences :
- 2 years of experience in home-based services, complex care cases, and hospice and / or palliative care is preferred.
