The Staff Urologist provides comprehensive and quality care to patients in the FHCC by remaining fully accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice, and demonstrating leadership and accomplishments when providing patient care and developing and implementing programs which will improve the delivery of care relating to the Urology Department.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements : United States Citizenship : Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training : Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

NOTE : VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are : Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.

Residents currently enrolled in ACGME / AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).

PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.

PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.

Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Reference : VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook , Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.

This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements : To perform in a fully successful manner, the individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which may require light carrying (under 15 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (up to 1 hour), standing (up to 1 hour), and both legs required.

In addition, there may be exposure to the following environmental factors : working inside and outside, working closely with others, and protracted or irregular hours of work.

A health examination must be successfully completed prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Occupational Health Clinic policy.

The Staff Urologist is responsible for evaluating and managing Urology patients. This includes performing physical assessments, ordering needed tests prescribing appropriate medications, initiating consultation requests, making decisions based on findings and test results, and performing surgery within the scope of practice of a board-certified urologist.

The Staff Urologist develops monitors and alters a comprehensive health care treatment program to include : 1. Gather a comprehensive database and perform initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial status : Conduct and document histories and physicals Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, i.

e., lab works, x-rays, EKGs, consults, and similar studies Develop treatment plans in collaboration with other attending physicians and health care team.

Record progress notes, write discharge notes and summaries Generate appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and community agencies according to established procedures 2.

Discriminate between normal / abnormal findings and formulating a treatment plan accordingly. Communicate with attending physicians regarding abnormal findings.

3. Initiate and adjust selected medications with formulary approval for inpatients. 4. Document in the medical record all procedures performed for which the Staff Urologist is responsible.

Institute and adjust plans of care, utilizing Staff Urologist skills. 5. Provide appropriate response to life-threatening emergency situation when no physicians are immediately available.

6. Document clinical findings and progress notes in the medical record. 7. Develop and provide patient treatment and education plan.

8. Initiate and monitor health maintenance in conjunction with the patient, family / significant other and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

9. Provide and promote teamwork support and collaboration with multi-disciplinary team members. 10. Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences to assure the quality patient care management.

11. Determine, in collaboration with Attending physician, appropriate admissions, discharges referrals and transfers to different levels of care and coordinates management of patients.

12. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the care provided meets or exceeds VA, Department of Defense, and external standards.

13. The incumbent provides care to outpatients and inpatients within the VHA system. The incumbent uses the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) for physician order entry (prescriptions, laboratory and radiology orders, consult requests) and notes, reviews of laboratory, radiology, procedure and consultation reports and communicates abnormal results to patients.

14. The incumbent performs admission history and physical examinations, discharge notes and summaries, advance directive, code status documentation, progress notes, Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) evaluations, rounds, case reviews with residents and mid-level providers, and attends discharge planning and treatment team meetings.

The Department of Medicine, Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition is currently recruiting for a Lead Physician Assistant of Gastroenterology (GI) to join their team.

This role will function in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, and will provide leadership and oversight for APPs across all GI subspecialties and locations.

The GI APP team is currently comprised of 12 APPs in the following gastroenterology subspecialties : general, endobariatric, inflammatory bowel disease, and interventional.

The practice locations include Rush main campus, Rush Oak Brook, Rush Oak Park, and Rush South Loop.

The Division Digestive Diseases and Nutritions Section of Gastroenterology is part of the Digestive Diseases Service Line which integrates clinical care, teaching, and research efforts to advance the subspecialty.

The gastroenterology APP team are part of an integrated team of faculty, clinicians, and researchers who also collaborate with allergy / immunology (GI / adverse reactions to food clinic), colorectal surgery and oncology (a comprehensive clinic for gastrointestinal cancers), bariatric surgery, ENT, pathology, and neurology.

Additionally, our training program continues to provide the GI subspecialty with exceptionally trained physicians. The program accepts 4 general GI fellows in training per class and includes an advanced therapeutic and inflammatory bowel disease training program (two 4th year fellows per year one for each advanced fellowship program).

Digestive Diseases clinical care is rendered across multiple hospitals and locations within our system (Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Brook, Rush Oak Park Hospital, and other off-site locations including south loop).
