GENERAL OVERVIEW :
This job identifies and manages medical and surgical problems within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice in a surgical setting.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. (30%)
- Performs physical exams, documents in the medical record, orders appropriate laboratory & diagnostic procedures and established presumptive diagnosis as defined in the written agreement between the PA and the supervising physician(s).
Assists in the OR by serving as first or second assistant during surgical procedures. (20%)
- Provides appropriate patient care to include completing daily patient care rounds on surgical patients, recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plan, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, discharge planning and providing accurate medical record documentation for surgical patients. (10%)
- Communicates with attending physician regarding plan of care and involves physician in clinical decision making of any issues that are outside the Physician Assistant's knowledge base or scope of practice. (10%)
- Educates patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication and treatment instructions, and recommends community resources as needed. (10%)
- Prepares written prescription orders for drugs as defined in the written agreement between the PA and the supervising physician(s). (10%)
- Triages patient telephone calls. (10%)
- Performs all other duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS : Minimum
Minimum
- BA / BS Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Current PA Physician Assistant License
- Board eligible. PA-C required or board eligible (License and certification required within 90 days of employment. Ongoing successful recertification (NCCPA) as a PA-C)
- CPR Certification
Preferred
- ACLS certification
- 1-3 years’ experience.

Job Summary :
- Review pertinent medical history documentation and provide veterans with one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams.
- The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant will capture responses during the exam through web-based examination form(s);
all documentation will be completed electronically. Completed exams are sent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for disability award determinations.

Overview : Since 1976, Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has been providing the Pittsburgh region with the most advanced orthopaedic care for a variety of orthopaedic injuries and conditions.
Tri-State Ortho is an independent, well-respected and busy ortho group. We are actively recruiting for a full time orthopaedic Physician Assistant.
Our practice consists of 12 PAs-10 Ortho PAs work with 9 surgeons (including a "Coverage PA" to help cover vacations and provide additional help in the OR) plus 2 Hospital PAs dedicated to hospital rounds / medical records.
Our practice offers growth opportunities as we are hoping to add another Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our group in August 2024 and continue to expand our ortho urgent care services.
Positions offer the opportunity to work with physicians in various ortho sub-specialties. PA call is currently 1 in 12 (and will be 1 in 13 by late 2024).
Weekday evening call is minimal and usually entails a few patient messages. PAs with extensive ortho experience are invited to staff our Ortho Urgent Care hours, which are also paid separately.
Ortho Surgical PA responsibilities :
Include first assist at surgery, H&Ps and assist in the office with the full spectrum of patient care including ultrasound guided injections, casting / splinting, post-op management, follow-up care, patient messages, EMR documentation, injection clinics, etc.
Assist with hospital rounding and ortho consults at some smaller hospitals. Opportunity to staff Tri-State Ortho Urgent Care hours is optional, but encouraged and pays separately.
Prefer a minimum of 2 years PA experience. Surgical experience and ortho knowledge is required. Prior orthopaedic experience is strongly preferred.
Candidates must be organized, detailed-oriented, caring and passionate about patient care, possess good bedside manner and excellent interpersonal skills.
EMR experience is also required.
Tri-State has four office locations in the Pittsburgh area including McCandless, Seven Fields, Robinson Twp. and Fox Chapel.
As an independent practice, we are able to care for patients with all insurance types. We are on staff at UPMC Passavant, UPMC St.

SUMMARY
