GENERAL OVERVIEW

Assumes and maintains responsibility for the patient and the onset of transferred care to the final disposition in the transport environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Demonstrates clinical assessment skills and care planning skills.
• Provides safe and effective care for the age population served according to regulatory requirements.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, including EMS, for the plan of care from presentation through disposition.
• Monitors safety of self and others working in and around the aircraft.
• Participation in quality assurance programs such as chart audits and case reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

• Current RN PA license in good standing
• Minimum five (5) years recent Emergency or ICU Registered Nurse experience within a level 1 trauma center or tertiary center
• OR FP-C with 4 years (8320 hours) flight paramedic experience and 1 year (2080 hours) of RN ICU experience at an ICU designated acceptable by the LifeFlight Medical Director
• ACLS, PALS, BLS all required
• Advanced Certification of : must have minimum of one : CEN or CCRN or CTRN or CFRN is required
• Current PA PHRN certification
• CFRN Certification is required 1 year after successful completion of the orientation program
• NRP / PHTLS are required within 6 months of hire
• Must meet height and weight restrictions

Job Description

West Penn Allegheny Health System, Inc. seeks Medical Technologists (Multiple Openings) to work at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and perform complex medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Duties include, among others : (i) performing routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information;

ii) verifying analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and linearity for clinical tests; and (iii) operating, calibrating, checking and maintaining laboratory instrumentation.

Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Medical Technology or a directly related field. Must have any experience reading abnormal manual differentials and interpreting gram stains.

Must also be able to work independently on afternoon and night shifts as well as possess an ICHP VisaScreen Certificate, if applicable.

Must also have American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board Certification (COP) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.

GENERAL OVERVIEW :

This job identifies and manages medical and surgical problems within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice in a surgical setting.

This position is Monday - Friday schedule with 3 days in clinic and 2 days a week in the Operating Room. No call or weekends

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. (30%)
• Performs physical exams, documents in the medical record, orders appropriate laboratory & diagnostic procedures and established presumptive diagnosis as defined in the written agreement between the PA and the supervising physician(s).

Assists in the OR by serving as first or second assistant during surgical procedures. (20%)

• Provides appropriate patient care to include completing daily patient care rounds on surgical patients, recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plan, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, discharge planning and providing accurate medical record documentation for surgical patients. (10%)
• Communicates with attending physician regarding plan of care and involves physician in clinical decision making of any issues that are outside the Physician Assistant's knowledge base or scope of practice. (10%)
• Educates patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication and treatment instructions, and recommends community resources as needed. (10%)
• Prepares written prescription orders for drugs as defined in the written agreement between the PA and the supervising physician(s). (10%)
• Triages patient telephone calls. (10%)

GENERAL OVERVIEW :

This job collaborates with all disciplines for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating / documenting psychosocial factors which contribute to patients' illnesses and / or have an impact on continuity of care;

scope of services may include, but is not limited to, discharge planning, counseling, crisis intervention, information and referral, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, suspected abuse, psychiatric services and guardianships per regulatory requirements.

Services may be provided both inpatient and outpatient.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Provides crisis intervention / counseling to identified populations to enhance patient / family coping mechanisms regarding illness.
• Engages the patient / family / significant other and interdisciplinary team in the discharge process to identify appropriate post-acute resources and community service follow-ups.
