TITLE : Instructional Assistant Senior - Special Needs, Personal
JOB DESCRIPTION :
Assist special education teachers with individualized instruction. Implement each child’s individualized
education plan (I.E.P.). Assist students with personal needs such as toiletry, feeding, adaptive equipment,
etc. Monitor student behavior.
QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Education and / or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
2. An AA degree, or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, or a passing score on
the ParaPro Assessment (preferred)
3. State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
4. Three (3) years of experience working with special needs children (preferred)
5. Ability to obtain certification in Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention, CPR, and First Aid
6. Special training in the use of adaptive equipment (may be required upon hire)
7. Ability to speak fluent Spanish (preferred)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assists teacher with instructions, creation of classroom materials and classroom set up.
- Assist teacher in meeting individualized educational plan (I.E.P.) goals.
- Assist and accompany student for inclusion in regular classroom.
- Aid student with personal hygiene, including changing diapers and assisting with toilet training.
- Assist students in proper use of eating utensils and cafeteria behavior.
- Assist occupational therapist and speech therapist with teaching student as required.
- Provide a safe environment for special education students in which to learn.
- Monitor and supervise students in classroom, playground and cafeteria settings; utilize District
behavior modification program as needed.
- Prepare instructional materials and visual aids; photo copies materials and documents.
- Prepare workstations or learning centers for children to work on daily lessons.
- Assist students with learning reading, writing and math skills.
- Assist in administering District and State tests.
- Assess student needs and modify lessons to provide appropriate help; document student progress.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure lessons are appropriate for student.
- Organize and maintain teaching materials.
- Organize and file student work; plan for daily activities to meet specific needs of each child.
- May oversee class as required in teacher’s absence.
- Attend educational training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

30 - 35 pounds infrequently and may require assistance from other personnel.

Position Description : The Personal Trainer is a part-time, contracted position. This position is responsible for creating and conducting personal training sessions for individuals or groups.
The personal trainer will be responsible for creating high-quality fitness programs for individuals with disabilities. Hours will vary based on the number of personal training appointments this person conducts.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Contact and schedule appointments with prospective clients.
- Review all appropriate paperwork with client and get signatures where necessary.
- Establish goals with clients based on assessments.
- Develop safe, effective and progressive exercise programs for clients.
- Provide a written workout plan and follow up for clients.
- Promote other activities within the facility.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, and fitness practices and techniques for people with disabilities.
Ability to lead a wide variety of training sessions using a variety of techniques, styles and formats. Ability to model a positive, motivating and caring demeanor.
Must be able to problem solve and adapt exercises to individuals' abilities. Excellent public relations and communication skills, strong planning and organization skills, and effective leadership, supervisory and problem-solving skills.
Ability to use independent judgment and initiative. Exceptional ability to work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationship with staff and members.
Qualifications : Bachelors' degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred; current professional certification required (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA or other applicable);
and two years' professional experience working with people with disabilities in the fitness field; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties.
Must have current First Aid and CPR certification. Clean criminal background required.
Working Conditions : Work may require spotting, transfers, and resistance training. May require lifting of 50 pounds or more.
Work is performed in a highly visible, busy environment, with a large volume of public contact and disruptions.
