The work schedule for this position will be Sunday - Thursday, 6 : 30am-3pm.

Job Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

REQUIREMENTS :

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science (or 24 credits in Chemistry / Biology constituting a biological science major) as required by CLIA

Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level

Previous experience is not required at the Technologist Trainee level

ASCP or AMT certification is preferred

Ability to work independently and within a team environment

Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus

High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY :

1. Under the general supervision of the Medical Technologist performs routine, complex or specialized bacteriological, hematological, chemical, immunological, serological and immunoassay procedures on body fluids.

2. Requires no supervision for processing specimens, performing testing, or reporting results. No review of patient results is required prior to reporting.

3. Maintains required competencies in all departments assigned.

4. Demonstrates accuracy for all testing performed.

5. Observes patient safety, risk management and infection control policies and procedures

6. Performs related quality control and required proficiency testing according to policy and procedure.

7. Fulfills the duty and responsibility to maintain competence and to continue personal and professional growth.

8. Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.

Job Requirements :

Education required and / or preferred :

REQUIRED :

  • Bachelor Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Medical Technology / Clinical Laboratory Science (MT / CLS) from an accredited institution.
  • Or be qualified under CLIA guidelines for MT / CLS.
  • ASCP certification

Licensure / Certification

PREFERRED : MT or equivalent certification, or be currently eligible to sit for MT or equivalent certification exam preferred.

Experience required or preferred :

PREFERRED : One year clinical laboratory experience or equivalent clinical lab training.

Background / Expertise :
