Summary
The Medical Assistant communicates with patients and performs clinical services to ensure high quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Example duties include, but are not limited to :
- Taking patient vital signs and obtaining patient intake information.
- Performing clinical procedures such as blood draws, vaccinations, nebulizer treatments, ear lavages, or EKGs.
- Effectively communicating with patients to determine their needs and providing education and resources.
- Ensuring exam rooms are stocked, clean, and set up for examinations and procedures.
- Coordinating Provider’s workflow to ensure efficient patient care.
- Ensuring Provider has all pertinent information required for each patient visit including diagnostic images, labs, and required screenings.
- Conveying information to patient via telephone or email under the direction of a Provider or Registered Nurse.
- Providing patients with requested documents after review to ensure forms are complete, accurate, and executed by the Provider.
- Maintaining a professional working relationship with all levels of staff, clients, and the public.
- Following all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and reporting any injuries and / or unsafe conditions immediately.
Requirements
Education : High School Diploma or GED required. Valid MA certificate from an accredited program required. Active BLS / CPR certificate required.
Experience : Minimum of 1 year of experience required.
Skills : Knowledge of and familiar with medical procedures and terminology. Electronic health records system experience preferred.
Intermediate computer and data entry skills required. Ability to be flexible with changing priorities and multiple time sensitive deadlines.
Ability to use emotional and cultural intelligence to provide appropriate communication and patient care. Exemplify compassion to patients and team members.
Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred.
Additional Requirements : Must have own watch with a second hand to count the pulse rate per minute and the respiratory rate per minute.
Must wear the watch at all times while working.
Neighborhood Healthcare requires employees to be fully vaccinated (including a booster dose) against COVID-19 and demonstrate proof of vaccination / booster upon hire or receive approval for an exemption based on a medical reason, disability or religious belief.

Medical Assistant
To assist physicians and professional nursing staff in providing care and treatment of patients. Assist front office staff as needed in patient registration, appointments, and record keeping.
To maintain and clean equipment, keep an inventory of supplies, and be responsible for ordering supplies.
The budgeted hourly range for the Medical Assistant is $23.57 to $29.27. We base placement within these ranges on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge of correct usage and spelling of medical terminology and medical equipment.
Ability to work quickly and accurately and to communicate and interact cooperative with patients and all personnel in facility.

Familiarity with universal precautions, handling of biohazardous waste, specimen identification and transport.
Familiarity with the fundamentals of asepsis and sterile technique, basic bacteriology and the relationship of bacteria to infection and disease control.

Ability to identify potential risk management concerns and provide options to resolve.
Ability to use good judgment in deciding when to seek clarification and assistance and be able to handle many tasks at once, judging what tasks may take priority.

Clinical duties require a reasonable level of manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.

Overview
As a member of the outpatient Bariatric health care team the Medical Assistant will work directly with the clinic team under the direct supervision of the Bariatric Clinic Coordinator, the Registered Nurse Bariatric Program Manager and / or the physician to support and ensure efficient operation of the Bariatric Clinic.
Responsibilities
The MA will support staff and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.
While caring for patients in an outpatient clinic setting will work to promote a safe, comfortable environment that fosters the physiological and psychosocial well-being of the patient.
Check-in patients, measure and document patient weight and vital signs. Conduct patient interview and document basic medical history.
Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician. Organize and schedule appointments.
Qualifications
1 year experience in outpatient setting, Bariatric specialty preferred. Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of California.
