General Description The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for implementing all medical activities associated with the health component.

Assists in conducting parent meetings associated with health-related topics. Complies with all policies and procedures as established by the American Association of Medical Assistants.

Responsible for contacting parents about health screenings and examinations. Responsible for all record keeping tasks required by the health component on a monthly basis in preparation for the Program Information Report (PIR).

Performs other duties as assigned by Birth-to-Five Head Start Health Coordinator, Birth-to-Five Head Start Director or Associate Director.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience :

  • Must have current Certified Medical Assistant certification.
  • High School diploma or GED, and
  • Three (3) months experience in providing medical related services.

Special Requirements

  • Must successfully complete and maintain the following examinations, and certifications :
  • First Aid certification; will need to be renewed every two (2) years by expiration date
  • CPR Infant / Toddler certification; will need to be renewed every two (2) years by expiration date
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, physical and functional capacity evaluation prior to first day of employment
  • Must successfully pass and submit a pre-employment TB test and periodically as indicated by the regional Texas Department of State Health Services or local health authority.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver's License and liability insurance. Driving record is subject to review and approval by agency insurance carrier.
  • Proof of work eligibility must be provided.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends to attend or conduct parent meetings.
  • Must be able to attend out of town training conferences.
  • Requires a hearing and vision screening certification by the Texas Dept. of Health.
