Mechanical Commissioning Engineer San Antonio, TX

Execute onsite commissioning plans, provide and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary engineering Commissioning role for large facility projects.

The commissioning experts adhere to a thorough quality management - QM / QA / QC process and procedures that validate and document our client’s systems.

Commissioning methodology covers a wide range of procedures to verify the integrity and performance of their customer’s mission critical support infrastructure.

Responsibilities :

Equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures; Development of standard operating procedures (SOP's) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs);

Comprehensive Commissioning documentation

  • Be able to conduct level 1-5 commissioning
  • Prepare commissioning test procedures and reports; Develop and maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklist, and other tools to track commissioning projects

Interact with all facets of the company : engineering, design, etc.

Verify results of test reports; Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment as needed; Field experience in the operation and application of Power Quality Analyzers, Power Disturbance Analyzers, Data loggers, and related system testing equipment

Qualifications :

  • 4-7 years experience in the Mechanical / HVAC Field
  • P.E or EIT a plus
  • LEED Accreditation a huge plus
  • BA / BS as a Mechanical Engineer a plus
  • Experience commissioning enterprise data centers, colos, and hyperscale companies
  • A / E experience working in complex facilities or mission critical projects a big plus
  • Previous Data Center / Mission Critical experience a must
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (this role requires heavy amount of writing, documentation, and client interaction)
  • Willingness to travel
  • Mechanical equipment testing experience in a Critical Facilities / Data Center Facility environment
  • Experience with ASHRAE / ASHRAE T.C. 9.9 procedures and protocols a plus
  • Possess basic knowledge of systems design for various projects
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, SeaBees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.)
  • Experience with Level 1-5 Commissioning

Job Description

The Specialty Mechanical Engineer will support the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in Oak Ridge, TN.

What You Will Do :

  • Produce design and procurement documents of specialty and first of a kind equipment (gloveboxes, furnaces, high vacuum systems, metal casting / machining equipment, etc.)
  • Perform engineering design tasks
  • Develop build to print design drawings
  • Develop equipment specifications
  • Create associated calculations and analysis with machine design (e.g. finite element analysis, structural and seismic analysis, ergonomic studies, kinematic calculations, and heat transfer calculations)
  • Develop procurement documents
  • Hours will be 6AM - 4 : 30PM, Monday - Thursday
  • Position will be full-time with no expected travel

What You Will Need :

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with design / specification of custom mechanical equipment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in 3-D engineering / modeling and machine design experience (preferably with gloveboxes, furnaces, high vacuum systems, and metal casting / machining equipment)
  • Experience with engineering calculations / analysis associated with machine design (e.g. finite element analysis, structural and seismic analysis, ergonomic studies, kinematic calculations, heat transfer calculations)
  • Active Q Clearance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Reporting Relationships :

The incumbent will report to a senior-level engineer or technical manager. This position has no direct reports.

Main Purpose

The Mechanical Reliability Engineer position has primary responsibility for providing programs and projects to improve equipment reliability, developing maintenance procedures to reduce maintenance cost, and fostering continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an appropriate preventive maintenance schedule to reduce premature equipment failures through proper measures, tests, inspections and analyses of equipment condition.
  • Work closely with Production managers and engineers and Maintenance department personnel.
  • Liaison between Technical Manager and Project engineers in the development, design and installation of capital projects.
  • Develop engineering solutions to maintenance problems, including ways of reducing or eliminating the need for maintenance through equipment replacement or improvement work.
  • Analyze the effects of preventive maintenance on equipment reliability and maintenance costs for evaluation as a basic for equipment design decisions.
