This position resides on the Technical Review Team within the Campus Planning department. The Technical Review Team is responsible for the review of construction documents at various project phases.
Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing a security background check and receiving an acceptable driver's rating.

Purpose
Perform technical review of project documents to ensure alignment with construction standards, and applying related design and construction principles and practice to complete, extensive, and diversified projects in the specialty area.
In area of expertise, track compliance with regulatory government entities.
Responsibilities
As technical expert, independently evaluates the plans and specifications for projects prepared by other architects, engineers and other design professionals.
Perform reviews in conjunction with an coordinated with other disciplines of architecture and engineering meeting the agreed schedule.
- Works independently in resolving highly complex and technical issues related to design and construction.
- Apply related professional skills and knowledge during construction leading to compliance with building codes, UT Standards on a needs basis as directed by supervision.
- Participate in providing input and updating the related discipline specific requirements in the UT Austin Standards.
- Assist and interact with Facilities Maintenance and other University personnel in the performance of all phases of the specialty area.
- Ensure associated required record-keeping systems are maintained.
- Perform value management engineering studies and evaluation of schematic design, preliminary design, and when so determined in construction management costing or post-bid costing to achieve aesthetic and technical value at reduced or increased costs consistent with life cycle cost for maintenance, durability, and energy conservation.
- Secure and maintain required discipline license including any continued education criterion.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Engineering. Four or more years of experience in design and construction with an emphasis on working knowledge in the areas of code enforcement, design documents and specifications, and construction practices.
Knowledge of specialized standards related to construction in the area of expertise. Professional engineer or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
Ability to apply thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures for the area of expertise to difficult and unique assignments.
Ability to develop and review request for code or design exceptions. Knowledge of the codes in the area of expertise. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Strong communication skills. Strong computer skills. Working knowledge of MS Word; Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access.
Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree or advanced degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Engineering. Demonstrated experience with the evaluation of complex designs to make professional judgements as to the acceptability of alternative technical practices.
On-site experience at major construction sites with familiarity of building systems including foundations, structures, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Salary Range
$90,000 + depending on qualifications

- Provide engineering and 3D Revit support for multiple projects that include HVAC, piping, plumbing and fire protection.

- Experience with, and the ability to size HVAC equipment, duct and ancillary equipment, hydronic, and utility piping systems and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD, REVIT and MicroStation preferred, as well as Microsoft Software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

This role provides dynamic technical support, leadership and innovation from product inception through post-launch. Mechanical Engineer is responsible to lead the engineering, creates and evaluates technological developments, investigates feasibility of new engineering techniques, components, processes, and materials.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Conceive, plan, develop, and coordinate project components as an individual contributor or as a member of a cross-functional team.
- Support and / or complete medium to higher level complexity engineering tasks / projects as assigned to meet business objectives.
- Create and develop engineering project documentation, i.e. bill of materials, drawings and specifications
- Develop prototypes and test plans; validate as required.
- Participate in or conduct design reviews and provide feedback, using the appropriate tools i.e.
- FMEA, field and lab testing
- Research and provide the required product information to support sales, service, and marketing to satisfy customer needs.
