  • Understanding of welding principles. Failure analysis training FMEA or RCFA
  • Experienced fixed and rotating equipment equipment including leading projects.

  • The Mechanical Engineer shall provide technical support to the Infrastructure Engineering Center, for accomplishment of project engineering packages :
  • Develop site specific project plans and specifications for solicitation and contracting of engineering projects for FAA approval and acceptance.
  • Perform site surveys to collect site-specific project data and research all (state, local, federal, FAA, etc.) standards, construction codes and ordinances.

Minimum Education / Experience

  • General Engineering Degree (B.S.)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Project Engineer and / or Resident Engineer with Mechanical Engineering Design and experience with tower, shelter and similar structure projects.
  • Knowledge of Unstaffed Infrastructure Sustainment (UIS) facilities
  • Knowledge of National Airspace System Equipment Tower (NASET), National Airspace System Equipment Building (NASEB), Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), power, general building construction techniques, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), fire detection, security, site work.

Desired Qualifications

PolyCon Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Des Plaines, IL , to support our Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) client with designing, developing, and evaluating components and processes used in the power generation, manipulation, transmission, distribution, and storage of electricity.

Responsibilities :

  • Will perform all duties necessary to help produce complete design packages for the Terminal Replacement and Modernization Programs.
  • Develop site-specific project engineering packages in accordance with national and FAA standards on assigned projects based on scoping documents.
  • Produce engineering design drawings, detailed work plans, project material requirements, cost estimates, project schedules, and other items as required.
  • Participate in site surveys to determine site requirements, operating parameters, site-specific issues, and assist with development and review of project scope.

  • Provide mechanical engineering assistance in support of project installation, implementation, and integration. This will include issue resolution and troubleshooting installation problems.
  • Must maintain a site-specific project status for site preparation and equipment installation problems and answer contractor Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Assist in the preparation of change order scopes of work and estimates.
  • Make periodic site visits to FAA facilities projects to inspect work in place and evaluate contractor progress, provide written punch list of noncompliant items, and perform an evaluation of project close out documentation and procedures.
  • Verify that As-built drawings are correct and that manuals, spare parts, training, and monitoring services comply with contract requirements and advise the project team of mechanical engineering concerns throughout construction.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelors' Degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering) and 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience OR Master's Degree with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Competent with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
