The HVAC Technician performs preventive and corrective and preventative maintenance on all HVACR equipment and document. Repairs and evaluates the effectiveness of all HVAC equipment.

Job Responsibilities / Duties

  • Performs preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment, troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical and mechanical device malfunctions (pumps, boilers, engines, motors, conveyor systems, etc.).
  • Replaces, repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as damaged or worn heating ventilation and air conditioning parts in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufactures specifications, with hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.

Inspects and services urgent, corrective, routine and requisitioned repair, HVAC equipment. Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment.

  • Documents preventive maintenance and repair works on HVAC and refrigeration equipment in the daily journal. Maintains logs and recording charts as required
  • Performs routine Plant Operations equipment rounds. Calibrates thermostatic controls and pressure differential gauges. Maintains awareness and upkeep of the physical plant of the hospital.

Takes conscious ownership for work and takes a proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful approach regarding work activities.

Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making. Demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

Maintains confidentially in accordance with hospital / corporate policies and HIPAA privacy regulations. Complies with all hospital fire and safety rules.

Maintains boilers and controls generation of a continuous supply of steam for heating hospital buildings and to power machinery and auxiliary equipment.

Inspects and observes pressures of liquid and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation.

Participates in the annual budgeting process as it relates to HVAC needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education : High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Minimum Experience : One to two (1-2) years previous experience in mechanical construction trade required. One to two years HVACR operations and associated systems and equipment experience.

Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues.

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload. Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.

Three (3+) or more years formal training in mechanical construction trade preferred. Three (3+) or more years HVACR operations and associated systems and equipment in an industrial equipment preferred.

Bilingual skills preferred. Previous hospital plant operations experience preferred.

Req. Certification / Licensure : HVAC Technician Certification EPA Clean Air Section 608 required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Maintenance Mechanic must diagnose and repair faulty equipment while working under pressure and with compressed timelines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines; record / report on damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Clean and organize daily inventories, and stocks, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Make necessary modifications and implement test runs as necessary.
  • Confer with the product manager regarding test results and make additional alterations to machinery as required.
  • Assist with tile and masonry repair.
  • Learn and execute common food handling safety requirements.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic must be able to read schematics, diagrams, service manuals, and blueprints.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • The Maintenance Mechanic must have at least 3+ years of maintenance experience in a bakery and / or food & beverage manufacturing environment performing mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry-related tasks.
  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills and a strong knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools, meters, and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to interact with others in a professional, tactful, and sensitive manner.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic must have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and to work independently as well as part of a team.
