This position is located in the Life Support and Transport Section (LSTS), Sourcing Support Service (SSS) within the Logistics Division (LD), Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM), Department of Operational Support (DOS).

The Department of Operational Support was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions.

The Office of Supply Chain Management encompasses the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General, the Logistics Division, the Procurement Division, the Uniformed Capabilities Support Division, the Global Service Centre, Aviation Safety Section and the Enabling and Outreach Service.

The Logistics Division performs a central role in the implementation of end-to-end supply chain management across the United Nations (UN) operations.

The Division provides direction and advice on logistical matters, monitors and assesses the delivery of strategic transportation and support services, and directs the delivery of transportation and specialist support services in the functional areas of air transport, ground transport, engineering, medical and supply, inclusive of fuel, rations and general supplies and security equipment.

The incumbent will report to the Chief of Life Support and Transport Section.

Responsibilities

Within limits of delegated authority, the Logistics Officer is responsible for the following duties :

Logistics support for new and ongoing peacekeeping and other field missions includes : supply chain management, materials management, transportation, maintenance, contracts and services management;

communications, information technology, engineering and medical services.

  • Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of logistics support operations. Ensures effective and timely provision and coordination of diverse logistics support requirements.
  • Monitors the implementation of logistics support plans at all field missions.
  • Coordinates logistics requests for assistance with client entities, offices and departments such as Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs & Department of Peace Operations (DPPA / DPO), and DOS.
  • Develops policy and procedures documentation for logistics support.
  • Liaises between field missions and Headquarters staff on logistics matters and coordinates day-to-day support of logistics operations.
  • Plans and co-ordinates supply chain and logistics support to new, sustaining, expanding, contracting, and liquidating peacekeeping operations and other field missions.
  • Undertakes detailed research and develops fit-for-purpose sourcing solutions to meet clients' demand for security and supply products and services aligned with category management strategies.
  • Manages a portfolio of supply chain solutions and logistics operations including management of contracts, logistics assets, materiel, goods and services, and personnel.
  • Participates in or leads technical survey missions and verification missions to troop-contributing countries, and service providers and suppliers.
  • Conducts market research and reviews best practices in contract development, identifies areas for improvement, trains staff and adapts such practices to United Nation's (UN) requirements.
  • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
  • Develops and prepares plans, reports and procedures for assessing material, staff, troops and their movements, planning and costing of operational budgets.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
  • Assumes responsibilities of certifying officer.
  • May coordinate and direct a team of staff and / or mentor and supervise the work of new / junior officers.

  • Experience in managing support services for international peacekeeping, military logistics or multinational corporations is desirable.
  • Experience in supply chain management, quality assurance, procurement or contract management of large-scale goods or services contracts is desirable.
  • Experience in supervising a multicultural team is desirable.
  • Experience working with business intelligence systems and data analysis tools is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.

About the Role CharterUP is seeking Enterprise Logistics Coordinators to join our team! The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure world-class project management of our most valuable shuttle contracts.

This includes ensuring all drivers and vehicles are performing in accordance with contractual and service level agreements (SLAs).

The Enterprise Logistics Coordinators establish and maintain quality of service, perform driver training on shuttle routes, perform vehicle quality inspections, and provide daily reporting to management.

This role includes a significant amount of travel, often including weekends and with little notice as new projects commence.

Depending on the volume or complexity of each contract, travel may be required in two or three week rotations. During this time, while on duty, the Enterprise Logistics Coordinators proactively manage assigned contracts and respond to client or internal company requests as they arise.
