Position Summary
Our exciting Manager-In-Training (MIT) program gives you the opportunity to learn and grow at an established company with over 45 years of experience.
As our newest associate, you'll experience a custom interactive program that will guide you through hands-on and computer-based training, lasting approximately eight (8) weeks.
The program focuses on different aspects of managing your own account, including :
- General Training & Comprehension - Learn and perform the job assignments of the housekeeper, heavy housekeeper / floor tech, and laundry worker positions and, as such, can operate, and teach others how to operate, a variety of industrial cleaning equipment.
- Leadership Development - Assists in training, quality control, and in-servicing of staff according to policies and procedures and federal / state requirements.
- Policies & Procedures - Learn to provide leadership, support, and guidance to ensure that quality standards, inventory levels, safety guidelines and customer service expectations are met, including following current applicable federal, state, and local standards, in line with our established policies and procedures to ensure that quality housekeeping services are provided at all times.
- Reporting - Train in maintaining records of income and expenditures, supplies, personnel, and equipment in report format to be delivered to HCSG and Facility management.
- Training - Learning to be responsible for all training, quality control and in-servicing staff to meet HCSG standards is an essential part of the Manager's responsibility and includes touring various areas at the facility several times per day to assess work quality using QCIs for documentation purposes.
- Leadership - Learn to effectively handle managerial responsibilities as well, including but not limited to payroll submission, staffing patterns, effective coaching and discipline, purchasing, maintaining inventory, and budgeting.
- Communication - Effectively communicate all directives from client managers, building occupants, and administrators to HCSG staff.
- Safety - Utilize protective gear in all appropriate functions. Responsible for the safe and proper mixing and use of cleaning solutions while adhering to all safety precautions.
Reporting equipment / cleaning product needs and or malfunctions to supervisor in a timely fashion. Ensure the established standards, safety, and quality guidelines are met.
Follow infection control and universal precautions policies and procedures to ensure that a sanitary environment is achieved at all times.
Follow proper reporting, isolation, and handwashing procedures / techniques.
Punctuality - Consistent attendance and punctual arrival. Timely completion of assigned cleaning area according to schedule.
Respond to the paging system in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Customer Experience - Positively represents HCSG by following instructions, being courteous, and cooperative with supervisor, co-workers, and client staff.
- Resident Experience - Positive, pleasant, and tactful interactions with residents, staff, and facility guests.
Qualifications

GENERAL INTRODUCTION :
Each position employed with Camping and Guest Services helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE :
To provide an experience that encourages students to develop an appreciation and care for God's creation through Catholic reflections, scientific observation and investigations.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES :
Implement the Environmental Education program as the primary point of contact for students.
Plan and lead instructional lessons incorporating established curriculum and resources.
Ensure the health and safety of assigned students and chaperones.
Create an atmosphere which makes all school participants feel comfortable and welcome.
Lead evening activities with students and be on call 1-2 evenings assigned.
Demonstrate servant leadership through general camp support- high ropes facilitation, kitchen and facilities clean-up, luggage transportation, etc.
Participate in pre and post session camp set up and clean-up.
Assist in the evaluation of the program at the end of the season.

Environmental Program Instructor
This position teaches, leads and supports youth, adult, and family programs at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) for the summer and fall seasons through mid-December.

Position Location and Description
The work location for the Environmental Program Instructor is at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center located in the heart of the North Cascades National Park on Diablo Lake.
Mountain School, an overnight learning program for 5th graders, takes place from February to the end of May. Summer activities, which take a variety of guises for the public at large, proceed from June to late August.
Mountain School resumes in September and continues to mid-December. There are two tracks in the summer, one engaged with a variety of programming at the Learning Center, and the other committed to remote backcountry leadership adventures with teens.
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages
- Enthusiasm for learning and teaching about the natural world
- Previous experience, professional or volunteer, in teaching roles, group leadership and facilitation
- Successful applicants will be required to have a minimum of Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification by the start of employment;
valid through the entire term of employment. If needed, the Institute will provide training at no cost, prior to employment start.
Preferred
- Experience teaching and / or leading elementary and middle school youth, as well as working with teachers and parent chaperones
- Experience creating, leading and instructing programs for adult learners
- Experience developing and delivering interpretive programs in park settings
- Experience employing different teaching methods and styles to accommodate different audiences and learning styles
- Experience managing risk in remote settings
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in related field

Responsibilities
Program Instruction and Support (85%)
- Design and Deliver lessons in natural and cultural history, the arts, mind mapping, interconnectedness, social emotional learning and natural science topics : climate change, fluvial / alluvial valleys, watersheds, decomposition, web of life, geology, stream ecology
- Lead program participants on trail hikes with groups ranging from 8-16 participants. Hikes range from 0.25-7 miles across rugged North Cascades trails and terrain.
- Facilitate program participant experiences, including arrival orientations, meal times, campfire programs, and post-program evaluations
- Assist with maintenance and management of program inventory and materials
- Help deliver interpretive, naturalist and natural history field programs for on and off-site guests
- Lead and paddle canoe programs in both two-person and large canoes, from 2-18 participants. The Institute will provide training.
- Assist with all operations for 4-5 weddings hosted at the ELC
- Skagit Information Center - staff desk and Point of Sales system at information center to assist summer travelers and help with retail sales
Administration (10%)
- Regularly report on programming activities and field issues / concerns to Program Coordinator
- Participate in all scheduled program trainings
- Participate in regular check-ins as a group and with your supervisor
- Report any risk management incidents
- Engage in self-guided research and learning into relevant natural history topics
General (5%)
- Support and actively contribute to the Institute’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives

- Provide ELC facilities, housekeeping, and kitchen staff with occasional support as needed

Physical Demands
- Sit, stand, dance, talk, yell, sing, and hear, use hands and fingers to operate field equipment; reach with hands and arms
- Job duties are often carried out while hiking over uneven terrain with participants
- Candidates will be trained and certified to use and lead canoe programs during summer programs
- Candidates must be able to lift, load, pack, and carry teaching materials and field equipment of 30-50 pounds
Compensation and Value
Pay rate is $16.50 / hour. This is a temporary / seasonal, full-time, nonexempt position. Benefits include the following :
- Paid Sick Leave - 8 hours per month (prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
- Holiday Pay - 6 holidays through December 14, 2023.
- Wilderness First Aid Certification provided by the Institute
The typical work week ranges from 32-40 hours. Some weeks overtime will be available, overtime pay is 1.5x base pay and could occasionally be required.
The Backcountry leadership adventure track positions will be a separate application that occurs in April. Compensation is similar but the details of time and rate are structured differently due to the nature of the position.

Housing
Good quality housing is available through the Institute for $350 / month, considerably below market rates. Private rooms in shared houses are sometimes available, but not guaranteed.
In some cases, roommates in shared rooms may be required, at $175 / month. The Institute has housing available in Marblemount or at the Learning Center on Diablo Lake.
Smoking is not allowed in housing, during programs, or on the Institute’s campus. Pets are not allowed in the Institute’s campus housing, but a few rooms in one of our Marblemount houses allow for pets.

Genwest is accepting applications for an Environmental Scientist. This position will support our clients at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R) Spatial Data Branch (SDB).
LOCATION :
This position will be co-located with the NOAA Spatial Data Branch team working from NOAA offices in either Seattle, WA or Charleston, SC.
POSITION DUTIES :
The successful applicant will support OR&R staff in managing and applying environmental data - including chemistry, toxicity and field measurements - for assessment of environmental injury, in particular natural resource damage assessment.
They will also work with the Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA) and Data Integration Visualization Exploration and Reporting (DIVER) teams participating in data management, layer management, coordinating with data partners and stakeholders, and providing input for software and application development.
KEY TASKS :
- Work within a fast-paced team conducting spatial analysis and communicating scientific decision making.
- Work with NOAA and other trustees to support natural resource damage cases including injury assessment (exposure pathways, environmental impacts, statistical analysis of chemistry and toxicology data).
- Work with co-trustees and stakeholders to prepare Deepwater Horizon Restoration Project’s long term data management. Evaluate and standardize restoration monitoring data for integration into NOAA data systems.
- Work with co-trustees and other stakeholders to support implementation of studies for characterizing and quantifying injuries to natural resources at hazardous waste and oil spills.
- Work with co-trustees to prioritize data sets for entry into OR&R’s DIVER database and work with ARD’s Spatial Data Branch to ingest relevant datasets, ensure proper formatting, data access, and overall usability of the database.
- Compile and organize spatial data (GIS) and metadata for integration into OR&R’s regional ERMA sites

- Master’s or Doctorate degree in marine or environmental science, ideally in one of more of the following sub-disciplines : aquatic toxicology, environmental chemistry, coastal ecology, quantitative analysis.

Desired Qualifications :

- Experience with collection and analysis of data from multiple sources, such as remote sensing (Satellite, crewed and uncrewed systems) and electronic field data collection (Survey 123, FieldMaps).
- Experience with modeling exposure and injury from environmental contaminants.
- Knowledge of damage assessment procedures mandated by Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA), and / or relevant environmental state statutes.
- Experience in managing complex environmental projects, including building consensus around goals and objectives, and tracking and reporting on accomplishments.
- Possess HAZMAT training (24 or 40 hour) or willing to take this training.
COMPENSATION :
Compensation will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the successful applicant in combination with contract budget.
The wage range is anticipated to be roughly $57,500 - $77,500 on an annualized basis, depending on candidate qualifications.
The position is also eligible for a full-time benefit package that includes health insurance, paid personal and holiday leave, 401(k) program eligibility, and employee disability and life insurance.

Environmental Technician
Responsibilities :
- Performs field sampling of various building materials for asbestos, paints, molds and other hazardous materials of interest using standard operating protocols and good field sampling techniques
- Performs air monitoring and completes data sheets using standard operating protocols
- Delivers field inspection reports and / or air monitoring data in a timely manner
- Develops a working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, PSCAA, L&I as it relates to building demolition / renovation and environmental issues
- Prepares required reports as needed in a timely and accurate manner
- Provides high quality customer service in a timely and courteous manner
- Reports unresolved difficulties with any client to the Field Services Manager
- Maintains positive and professional relations with clients and staff members at all times
- Informs Manager of any needed supplies or communication issues
- Participates in all departmental meetings, refreshers and training programs
- Maintains consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, and appearance
- Performs all duties assigned by the Manager
Qualifications :
- A minimum of 2 Years of College or a Bachelors of Science Degree is preferred
- Must have Certification as AHERA Building Inspector and / or other relevant certifications
- Requires excellent customer service skills
- Strong interpersonal & customer service skills
- The ability to maintain solid working relationships with clients and staff
- Must have working knowledge of computer software including MS Office
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to create and prepare professional reports
- A valid Driver’s license and personal transportation are required

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :
- The functions of this position are performed primarily outside the office and may require working outdoors in all weather conditions, with all noise levels, in hazardous conditions, in contact with hazardous materials and odors, and on the full range of outdoor work surfaces
- The ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds
- Requires the ability to carry a 20 ft. ladder and climb ladders without the fear of heights
- Must be willing and able to enter and / or crawl into confined spaces
- Must be physically fit and able to pass medical exams, to wear respirators
- The ability to stand for sustained periods of time, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, reach and walk without assistance
