Oversee all aspects of the Medical Center’s environmental health and safety program. This includes setting policy, managing staff, and developing new programs and initiatives.

Oversees compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and accrediting groups specific to the Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety Code.

Serves as the Environmental Safety Officer for the Medical Center. This position actively collaborates with the organization’s quality improvement program, corporate compliance program, and the patient safety program. Essential Job Functions :

  • Oversees organizational compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations, Joint Commission and CAP standards, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws, regulations, and standards that impact the Medical Center.
  • Chairs the Environmental Health and Safety Committee.
  • Develops and manages policies and procedures related to the EOC and life safety in the workplace.
  • Coordinates a multi-disciplinary team for weekly Environmental Tours including efforts to mitigate risk. Maintains documentation of actions taken.

  • Authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write, and administer performance appraisals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, safety management, nursing or industrial hygiene, or a health-related discipline.

A combination of education and / or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experiences have been directly related to the duties of the job.

  • Five years’ experience as a safety manager / officer / director, or a related medical field required.
  • Minimum of three years previous management experience and excellent leadership qualities required, preferably hospital based.
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
  • Must be someone that is very observant and pays keen attention to details at all times.
  • Relevant safety certification, e.g., Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) must be obtained within one year of hire
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), Occupational Safety Healthcare Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission (JC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Must be able to manage in a fast paced and demanding environment.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to advise management staff on environmental safety and workplace safety issues.

Qualifications :

Leadership :

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working or consulting as an Environmental Engineer.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience at a chemical manufacturing plant or equivalent industry.
