HDR is looking for an Environmental Scientist and / or Environmental Planner to conduct environmental studies and prepare permit applications for transportation and other projects.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to join a growing environmental team within a well-established nationwide company.
The job will be based at HDR’s Pennington, NJ (*preferred*); Newark, NJ; or Woodcliff Lake, NJ office.
Responsibilities :
The candidate will perform environmental studies and prepare applications and approvals to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)-Regulatory Branch, and other federal and state permitting agencies.
NJDEP permit involvements will include Freshwater Wetlands, Floor Hazard Area / Riparian Zone, and Coastal Zone Permits (CAFRA, Coastal Wetlands, Waterfront Development).
In addition, the candidate will be required to prepare documentation associated with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) approvals, NJ Executive Order 215 (EO215) approvals, and section 4(f) Evaluations.
The candidate must be able to work in a team environment, as well as independently, with moderate supervision by the Environmental Manager and / or Engineering Project Managers.

- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in environmental permitting in New Jersey
- Familiarity with NEPA, Section 4(f), NJ EO 215, NJDEP Division of Land Resources Protection regulations and procedures
- Must be knowledgeable with procedures for identification of potential endangered / threatened species and habitats (NJDEP-NHP, USFWS, and NOAA-NMFS Project Reviews), including Section 7 Consultation of Endangered Species Act.
- Valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record under HDR Motor Vehicle Policy

- NJDOT Capital Project Delivery Process
- NJ Pinelands Commission Comprehensive Management Plan
- Delaware and Raritan Canal Commission regulations

Job Description
Performs cleaning duties as well as other tasks performed by the Environmental Services Department. Adheres to NS-LIJHS / departmental policies and procedures and JCAHO / regulatory agency requirements.
Job Responsibility
- Performs all cleaning functions following established procedures in a timely fashion.
- Uses properly labeled cleaning supplies for each job as instructed.
- Maintains tools and equipment in good condition, uses supplies economically.
- Cleans beds, blinds, ceilings, light fixtures, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, walls, windows, wall tiles, ceiling & wall vents, televisions, etc following established procedures.
- Washes and hangs draperies and cubicle curtains
- Washes and polishes furniture and metal.
- Sweeps walkways and outside perimeter of facility (where currently applicable).
- Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, vacuums, and buffs floors.
- Replenishes liquid soap, paper towels and toilet tissue.
- Moves furniture from one area in facility to another (where currently applicable).May be asked to move furniture to outside storage facility.
Distributes clean linen carts.Picks up soiled linen and delivers to linen department.
- Collects garbage, cleans and re lines trash receptacles with plastic liners.
- Transports garbage to designated area and disposes non-infectious waste appropriately.

Job Qualification
- High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience in an industrial or hospital setting, preferred.
- Demonstrated competency in the use of all types of buffing and scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners and extractor machines.
Demonstrated competency in the use of Sani-Pak and cardboard baling machine.
- Must be able to lift / carry 15 pounds.
- Must be able to ambulate, up and down stairs and bend at knees repeatedly during shift in the performance of cleaning duties.
- Communicate effectively in English (speaking and reading).

POSITION SUMMARY
TRC is seeking an environmental scientist to join our growing Engineering, Construction and Remediation Practice in New York City, NY.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual and have 0-2 years of environmental due diligence consulting experience, in support of a wide variety of property transactions ranging from schools to industrial properties.
TRC’s New York City office is a vibrant, dynamic, and fast-paced work environment in the heart of Manhattan and provides access to a broad spectrum of professional experiences in a setting that thrives on teamwork.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Perform community air monitoring at various Sites throughout NYC.
- Management and preparation of Indoor Air Quality Investigations, Community Air Monitoring Plans, Health and Safety Plans, and other environmental assessments and investigations.
- Perform Site inspections and field work including soil, stormwater, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling.
- Prepare standard logs and field forms (such as boring logs, daily summary reports, and chains of custody)
- Underground and Aboveground Storage Tank Management.
- Remedial Investigation Work Plan Preparation, Implementation and Oversight.
Requirements
Required experience :
- B.S. or B.A. in environmental science, geology or engineering.
- 0 to 2 years of environmental consulting experience with primary focus on field investigations and sampling.
- 40-hr HAZWOPER and 10-hr Construction certification would be a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Required skills :
- Ability to work on long-term field assignments in the NYC area.
- Demonstrates excellence and efficiency in writing, communication, data analysis, professional judgment, and knowledge of scientific principles.
- Strong sense of responsibility and work ethic.
- Strong quality assurance / quality control skills and detail-oriented to perform technical, style and consistency reviews.
- Ability to manage time and multiple project assignments.
- Understanding of standards, regulations and guidance that apply to environmental due diligence, especially ASTM, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, and New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation.

COMPENSATION
In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition : $60,000 - 75,000.
Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
