Job Overview :
APTIM is currently seeking an Environmental Scientist to support site investigation, characterization, and remedial actions primarily at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard (HPNS) project site located in the San Francisco Bay area.
Occasional travel to support field activities at other project sites in the Northern California area will also be required.
Typical tasks may include but not be limited to daily air monitoring, managing on-site weather station data, weekly and monthly reporting of on-site air data, and the collection, documentation, and tracking of samples from various environmental media.
Strong interpersonal skills are a must, including the ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both written and verbally, to all project team members including client representatives, and colleagues alike.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities :
- Participate in and / or lead field activities.
- Collect environmental samples in the field from various media including air, groundwater, surface water, and soil.
- Calibrate, maintain, document, and utilize various field monitoring and measuring instruments.
- Apply basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned tasks; expected to manage own time to meet established deadlines.
- Analyze and prepare raw data into workable form for engineering / scientific project reports, workplans, specifications, permits, cost-estimates, and other project documents.
- Review historical documents and prepare summary materials, including tables and figures to support defining the current nature and extent of soil and / or groundwater contamination and aid in designing remedial strategies for cleanup of sites under RCRA and CERCLA regulations.
- Be able to communicate technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, and reports during work team meetings
- Conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment and independently manage own tasks, provide input on technical, project, and safety issues.
- Possess a "Safety First" work ethic.
Basic Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or Engineering, or related degree required.
- 0-3 years of relevant industry experience
- Possess or have ability to readily obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification
- Ability to wear proper PPE for work on hazardous waste sites; some lifting and physical work will be required.
- Must be able to work in the field in all types of field conditions / weather.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Core competency in Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong written and oral communication skills

Job Description
To support our growth in Northern California, we are seeking an Environmental Planner to contribute to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff.
The primary duties are to prepare environmental impact analyses for a wide range of projects including land use development, transportation, infrastructure, water, and energy.
The position includes conducting research and coordinating with public and private clients, engineering partners, technical sub consultants, and regulatory / resource agencies to prepare the analyses.

Qualifications

Environmental Health and Safety Manager
Summary
- SUMMARY : Manages the implementation of the Safety, Emergency Management, and Workplace Violence plans at the facility level;
- establishes safety and health goals in collaboration with the safety program; develops & implements controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards;

1. Responsible for managing the Environmental Health and Safety Program at the site level in accordance with all of The Joint Commission standards and elements of performance;
oversees Performance Improvement Process related to Environmental Health and Safety; provides on-going performance monitoring of plans, feedback, addresses problems, in-services staff and recommends ways to help develop skills.
2. Recommends language for policies and procedures that align with healthcare standards and regulatory compliance as well as regulations and standards set forth by other governing agencies.
3. Chairs the Environmental of Care (Safety) Committee at hospital sites; leads periodic review and update of the EOC Plans;
conducts employee related incidents, investigations and completes required regulatory reports.
- 4. Collaborates with appropriate staff to lead implementation of the Environment of Care (Safety) and Emergency Management Committees;
- monitors the effectiveness of changes in plans, policies and procedures; prepares reports using approved format for presentation to site Environment of Care (Safety) Committees and other committees;
develops reports containing data that allows for detection of patterns and trends for hazards.
5. Collaborates with regulatory agencies in support of the system-wide safety, emergency management, and workforce safety programs.
6. Ensures Emergency Preparedness documents are updated and changes are communicated.
7. Participates in planning emergency preparedness exercises based on system-wide goals and objectives; conducts response briefings and conducts After Action and Corrective meetings.
8. Coordinates with site facilities schedule for Environmental Rounding; reviews Rounding results with site facility leaders and makes recommendations to improve deficiencies;
compiles and summarizes relevant data for distribution to employees involved with the EOC policies.
9. Participates with Labor Relations in regular employee safety meetings, meets with facility leaders and stakeholders to develop, review, and distribute employee workplace safety reports and information to all AHS campuses;
using available data to analyze trends, generate reports, and compare employee safety outcomes.
- 10. Follows up with leaders after reports of employee injuries to ensure injured employees are directed to the correct Workers Compensation Program representative;
- in collaboration with Manager, Disability Programs, communicates with staff and / or supervisors regarding the need to complete online or paper reports;
works with department leaders to recommend and institute best practices to prevent employee-related injuries.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Required Education : Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in engineering, industrial arts, occupational health and safety, fire science or a related field.
Preferred Education : Masters degree.
Required Experience : Four years of safety, regulatory and emergency management experience in coordinating and managing program activities.
Preferred Experience : Experience within a Public Health, Public Administration or First Responder environment.
Required Licenses / Certifications : N / A
Preferred Licenses / Certifications : Licensed Safety Professional (LSP), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Certified Safety Director (CSD), Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Certified Environmental Director (CED), Certified Environmental Manager (CEM), and any other OSHA certificates or professional Fellows statuses in the field.
