DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION :
The Agriculture / Natural Resources Department at Santa Rosa Junior College is made up of eight full-time and over sixty-five associate instructors teaching over 2,500 students.
It is the largest community college agriculture program in California, and has been recognized as an Outstanding Agriculture Community College Program by the California Agriculture Teachers Association (CATA).
The Agriculture / Natural Resources Department includes 11 diversified program areas with over 20 different degrees and certificates serving the needs of career-focused and transfer students.
The Department also includes a dedicated hands-on learning laboratory in Shone Farm, a 365-acre diversified farm in the Russian River Valley.
Shone Farm includes 120 acres of forest, 100 acres of pasture for various livestock herds, 90 acres of vineyard, 12 acres for crop production, 4 acres of olive and apple trees, and 39 acres of buildings and improvements.
Shone Farm also features a bonded winery that produces award-winning wine, and a large agricultural pavilion for classes, events, and equestrian activities.
Altogether, it is one of the largest agriculture sites in the California Community Colleges system, and a place where SRJC students learn commercial production techniques that prepare them for the workplace or transfer to a four-year university.

Environmental Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY : The Environmental Specialist supports the Environmental Manager in the collection and reporting of data and is responsible for the operation of environmental systems in a direct and / or supervisory role.
The Environmental Specialist may supervise and interact with field staff on a variety of construction and technical issues across multiple divisions.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Collects, reports, and tracks environmental monitoring at relevant locations. May be responsible for completing and maintaining facility operating records.
Activities could include conducting storm water compliance inspections, sampling, reporting and training in accordance with the existing facility-specifics Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and the general provision of the Industrial Storm Water General Permit (ISWGP).
- Performs ongoing public relations and due diligence activities through communication with Division and Business Unit management as well as regulatory agency representatives.
- In conjunction with the Environmental Manager, performs site audits, completes and analyzes monthly environmental reports and other status reports as well as assisting with completing or managing required environmental sampling and reporting.
- Performs and oversees activities related to rolling out and completing necessary projects.
- Conducts and supervises landfill monitoring, operation and maintenance of gas extraction or leachate management systems.
- Oversees and works with outside vendors handling environmental systems and makes recommendations regarding vendor activities.
- Ensures continued compliance by coordinating air and water monitoring, environmental data review and reporting and compliance task tracking.
- Conducts and coordinates formal and informal environmental training for Environmental Technicians, Landfill Managers, and other employees.
- May assist with project management duties associated with construction projects, including but not limited to, tracking construction progress and compliance.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Certified Professional Engineer and / or Certified Professional Geologist designation obtained or in progress.
- Thorough knowledge of environmental regulations relating to air, water, solid waste, and material recovery / recycling.
- Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner.
- Strong written and oral communication skills required.
- Effective interpersonal communication across various levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors.
- Strong analytical skills and a focus on adding value to the Company.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

A Day in the life :
The Environmental Technician position is responsible for performing day to day inspections of components in the LDAR Program.
This position will be responsible for maintaining and care of their monitoring equipment and overall maintenance of the LDAR inventory.
The following list of duties are the responsibility of the Environmental Technician.
- Participate and be engaged in the safety culture
- Complete comprehensive Job Safety Analysis at their jobsite
- Maintain and use all required PPE
- Perform and document calibration of monitoring instrument as required
- Perform and document calibration-precision test and response time test as required
- Perform and document field inspections accurately, safely and efficiently
- Document on leak tag completely and accurately for all leaks found
- Hang inventory tags and re-hang fallen inventory tags
- Document and report any tag maintenance and inventory discrepancies found in the field
- Document Management of Change and assist to maintain the accuracy of field inventories
- Perform and document drift assessments, where applicable
- Participate in training for career development, safety and maintaining required certifications
- Perform any other duties assigned by client or project manager(s)
