General Description and Classification Standards

This is the entry level for this job family.

Individuals entering this level must already possess the basic knowledge of the work and the required motor skills and physical capabilities to carry out basic tasks.

Assists with performing highly skilled maintenance, installation, repair, and troubleshooting work involved with electrical systems.

Performs electrical work in several areas including runways, taxiways, and security gates.

Work involves technical application of electrical principles.

Typically performs the simplest pertinent tasks, assists higher level workers in more complex jobs,

Prepares or puts away tools. Position may be part of an apprentice program; position may be classified as an Apprentice if such a program / class exists.

Position is distinguished from a semi-skilled laborer in that this position routinely uses tools appropriate to higher level skilled positions.

Supervision Received

Works under direct supervision and follows standard procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

Maintains streetlights and traffic signals; trouble shoots to identify the problem and repair as needed.

Installs, services and repairs lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets, and wiring.

Operates power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment.

Installs, repairs and services specialized electrical equipment and machinery.

Constructs and maintains service equipment.

Reads electrical circuit diagrams.

Requisitions material and supplies from stockroom; calls vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies and recommends purchases and suppliers.

Decision Making

Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

Leadership Provided None. May oversee temporary or contract workers as needed.

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). 6 months of related experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting.

Preferred Education & Experience

Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in Electricity and / or Welding or similar area and 1 year of related experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting.

• Earn a full week’s pay in 4 days with our Friday - Monday flex schedule

Responsibilities :

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
• Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with codes.
• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
• Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment.
• Place conduit inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete the circuits between boxes.
• Construct / fabricate parts; fasten boxes to wall to house electrical switches or outlets.
• Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
• Works closely with other departments to ensure the proper transfer of all service work business data.
• Inspection of area for cleanliness after job completion respecting the customer’s property.
• Maintain company vehicle, ensuring cleanliness and organization, both inside and out.
• Always maintain a professional image.

Qualifications :

• Must have a minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as an electrician in a residential service and maintenance operation.
• GED or High School Diploma.
• Associate degree in related field preferred.
• Basic math and reading comprehension.
• Knowledge of electrical field concepts, practices, best practices, and procedures including the technical ability to understand and interpret Electrical Codes, Life Safety Codes, NFPA, Uniform Building Codes and Lighting Systems.
• Ability to work weekends greatly preferred.
• Solid communication and customer service skills.
• Must have appropriate trade tools.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
