BENEFITS : All eligible full time employees will receive Paid Annual Leave (PAL) starting at 23 days per year and raising by one day per year following one full calendar year of employment (January through December).

Position Requirements
REQUIREMENTS :
- 1-3 years of experience in shipboard electrical installations; or completion of a formal related course of study through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprenticeship program.
- Basic experience with Voltmeters, Ammeters, Ohmmeters, Megohmmeters, (ET1 only) Light Loss meters, (ET1 only) Optical Time Delay Reflectometers (OTDRs);
and general hand tools, such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimp tools, wrenches, knives, pliers, drills, and saws.
- Able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, written technical instructions and manuals.
- Able to read and understand material safety data sheets (SDS).
- Perform basic troubleshooting and / or testing of various electrical, systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory.
- Able to correctly wire simple devices, such as power / lighting panels, power / lighting distribution boxes, small terminal boxes, outlet receptacles, etc.
with minimal supervision.
Graduate of a NAVSEA approved Cableway Installation and Inspection course.

POSITION TITLE : Electrician
POSITION SUMMARY :
We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrician that will be responsible for a wide variety of activities to support the electrical demands of the institute including maintaining, installing, altering, and repairing electrical systems and subsystems used for generation, distribution and utilization of electric energy for Scripps Research facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Maintain, install, alter, and repair electrical boards, panels and related distribution hardware, motors, motor control centers, transformers, switch gear, wiring, receptacles, lighting, fire alarm systems, dedicated circuits for sensitive equipment and freezers, and power systems drives
- Test equipment for safety and efficiency. Inspect circuits and wiring for appropriate shielding and grounding
- Respond to emergency calls, power failures, overloaded circuits, electrical malfunctions, broken electrical equipment and other problems.
- Analyze problems and takes corrective steps to repair or replace equipment, as needed, including coordination of electrical shutdowns
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to determine installation or repair requirements
- Interact with facilities personnel, utilities, contractors and consultants to evaluate, plan and coordinate work
- Estimate labor and materials costs for work requests. Orders supplies and maintains stock inventory
- Perform routine work orders and preventative maintenance tasks, as assigned
- Accurately record daily hours worked and time spent on individual tasks
- Work daily with the Facilities Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Software
- May perform related tasks and work of other Facilities department personnel, as required or assigned

REQUIREMENTS :
- High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience.
- Completion of an Electrician Apprenticeship.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical, building and fire codes with general knowledge of building construction techniques.
- Experience working within plant operations and mechanical systems including building chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, exhaust fans and other supporting equipment.
- Knowledge of materials applications, proper use of tools, safety practices and techniques.
- Requires professional interpersonal, communication, and written skills.
- Ability to evaluate mechanical and electrical systems for coordination with other facilities staff.
- Requires valid driver license issued from the state in which the position is located.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, with or without accommodation, up to 50 pounds, use hand power tools, and work under time constraints.
- May be required to participate in facilities call-back or off hours interruptions.

COMPENSATON :
The expected hiring range for this position is $40.00 to $62.50 / hourly, commensurate with experience.
