The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services, and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peacekeeping operations and regional commissions.
The Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) provides expert healthcare management and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) services to all UN Secretariat entities (Field missions, Offices Away from Headquarters and Economic Commissions), the New York based agencies funds and programs, as well as providing strategic leadership of whole-of-system medical issues through the UN Medical Directors Network.
The Staff Counsellors Office (SCO) is responsible for providing psychosocial support to staff members and managers, supporting DHMOSH teams in managing mental health cases and offering education for healthcare professionals to better provide psychoeducation and wellness activities for New York based Secretariat staff.
This position is located in the Staff Counsellors Office (SCO). The Staff Counsellor will report directly to the Senior Staff Counsellor.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority and under the technical supervision of a senior counsellor, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties :
1.Protect / Prevention : Research, prepare, and deliver informational sessions and awareness training on emerging mental health issues including psycho-social risk at work, substance abuse, and resilience building.
2.Mental Health Supportive Services : Provide confidential counselling services to UNS staff in line with the confidentiality guidelines of the UN Staff / Stress Counsellors Group (UNSSCG);
Advice the Medical Director and DOS on ways to support staff with mental health and substance abuse issues from protection, prevention and support including on absenteeism.
This may include supporting staff before / after field missions or with other psycho-social or mental health related issues;
Support the DHMOSH Medical Teams as needed with assessments, consultations, collaborative training, etc. to support the needs of UN Staff across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peacekeeping and political operations, and regional commissions.
Provide psychological assistance to staff members in the aftermath of acute situation and referred to the appropriate Staff / Stress Counsellors locally or external mental health professional as needed.
3.Prevention : In line with the WHO’s Mental Health at Work and the UN Mental Health Strategy, incumbent works with the SCO team and relevant partners on preventive measures in the workplace : policy development, activities to decrease stigma, coordinating mental health awareness campaigns, assisting with psycho-social risk assessments, mitigation planning, and providing education about psycho-social hazards.
4.Additional duties under the role of the Staff Counsellors based on the professional and ethical standards of the UNSSCG.
Competencies Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Mental Health Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Psychiatry (nursing or medical), Clinical Social Work or related field.
A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job - Specific Qualification
Certification in topics related to mental health promotion (e.g. alcohol / substance abuse, occupational psychology, conflict resolution, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Art / Music Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, etc) in the workplace is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in the delivery of mental health counselling in a multi-cultural, international setting, including crisis intervention is required.
Experience in training development and delivery of training in psycho-educational topics is required.
Experience in assessment and mitigation of workplace psycho-social risks is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

Position Summary :
The New York County District Attorney’s Office - Witness Aid Services Unit (WASU) has an opening for a Bi-Lingual Counselor its Witness Aid Services Unit (WASU).

- Follow up contact with victims to monitor their connection to services.
- Ability to interact effectively with victims, witnesses, families, law enforcement officers and criminal justice personnel.
- Assist with a range of direct services such as crime victim compensation applications, emergency shelter placements; partner with DANY Advocates for additional concrete services.
- Collaborate with outside agencies to assist crime victims and facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies.

Qualifications :

Responsibilities :
Homebuyer education : Facilitate first-time homebuyer webinars, both internally at NHN and in
collaboration with external partners.
Intake and Assessment : Perform intake and assessment of individuals seeking homeownership
counseling assistance.
Pre-purchase homebuyer counseling : Meet with prospective homebuyers to review their
homebuying goals, analyze their credit and finances, develop a homebuying action plan and timeline, help them secure mortgage financing and down payment assistance, and provide ongoing support and advice.
Data management : Record, maintain, and track counseling data using NHN’s Salesforce
database.
Outreach & retention : Play a lead role in building a homebuyer pipeline and driving new participants to the organization through grassroots marketing and networking.
Work with Program Director to creatively develop systems to communicate with and provide support to non-ready homebuyers.
This may include ongoing social media, developing peer-to-peer support networks, or other methods.
Training, knowledge-building, and certification : Attend regular training sessions to be informed of
industry trends and receive up-to-date information regarding homebuyer counseling. Obtain HUD-Certification and NeighborWorks NCHEC Certification in Homeownership Counseling.

Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience in personal finance, mortgage banking, and / or social services required.
- Additional experience in pre-purchase homebuyer counseling preferred.
- HUD-Certified or able to study for and obtain HUD-Certification within 3 months of hire.
- Excellent interpersonal and strong public speaking skills.
- Ability to engage with low- and moderate-income homebuyers in a respectful manner.
- Genuine interest in providing supportive financial coaching and excellent customer service.
- Able to take direction and work well on a team as well as independently.

Compensation : $59,000 to $65,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience. Description
To provide individual and group counseling for drug abuse for residents who are in need of drug treatment. Intake, assessment and case management services, ongoing assessment for program eligibility, monitoring all aspects of care and client services, and psycho-educational classes may be included at discretion of Program Director.
- Providing alcohol and substance abuse counseling in individual and group formats
- Facilitate required Cognitive Behavioral Workshops and classes
- Develop a comprehensive plan of care that meets the needs of the client
- Provide the client with information on community services and agency services which will address their needs and make the appropriate referrals on behalf of the client
- Educate client on all areas related to program participation including rights and responsibilities and appeal rights
- Utilize case management skills, such as brokering, advocacy, monitoring and discharge planning to link clients and their families to resources and services
- Work closely with client to develop and revise care plans that are client focused and meet client needs
- Schedule and / or participates in Case Conference with clients / caregivers, service care planning and negotiate agreements
- Provide discharge planning to dis-enrolled clients to ensure client’s needs are met
- Maintain client physical file with required forms as per policy
- Ensure all services are supported by care plan, and case note documentation
- Ensuring that all court stipulations are met by each resident assigned to the caseload
- Ensure that the duties of this position are performed in accordance with contract, ACA, licensure, and corporate standards
