JOB SUMMARY
The sous chef assists the culinary team in overseeing the production of food in all stations of the kitchen and supervision of hourly team members.
This role is responsible for the quality, quantity, and timeliness of that daily meal production in accordance with Parkhurst standards under strict sanitary guidelines as outlined in food safety programs.
Participates, assists, and maintains the Culinary Gold standards of Parkhurst Dining in all areas of food production, sanitation, and management of employees, safety and quality control.
Other responsibilities include assisting the executive chef in all phases of planning, budgeting, costing, inventory, and employee relations, and ensuring company standards throughout daily activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Manage and direct all culinary staff to ensure standards and quality are being followed by each staff member.
- Assist with Executive Chef in menu development, organization and completion of production sheets and execution of new recipe standards.
- Assist Executive Chef in regular inspections of the entire unit for sanitation, cleanliness, temperatures and using checklists as a guide.
- Verify that recipe standards and consistency is constantly being used to ensure a quality product every time.
- Check schedule to ensure all employees are in place and ready to work.
- Review production sheet and daily menu plans.
- Review upcoming special events and catering needs and follow through with said tasks.
- Maintain an open line of communication with management, informing them of products and supplies needed.
- Follow the uniform dress code and maintain proper personal hygiene.
- Helps maintain inventory and proper ordering
- Supervises staff and adheres to proper coaching and discipline methods
- Assists with on boarding and training of new kitchen team members.
Qualifications :
- Three or more years of culinary experience.
- High school or GED
- Ability to organize workloads and meet time deadlines.
- Strong leadership and team management skills desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft software programs.

Job Summary :
Responsible for engaging, entertaining, interacting and providing a unique dining experience to guests. Primarily works in front of the restaurant while cooking and preparing hot meals on hibachi tables directly in front of guests.
Ensures correct food portions are being cooked and maintain the kitchen areas and hibachi tables clean and sanitized. Prepares and sets up food for cooking and side orders.
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 1-year experience in cooking strongly required.

Common Threads is seeking a dynamic teacher-who-can-cook or cook-who-can-teach
to work as a part-time Chef Instructor in the Pittsburgh, PA area. A Common Threads
Chef Instructor is the face of the organization, teaching hands-on cooking classes and
nutrition education to K-8th grade students, parents, and teachers in school kitchens
and community spaces and establishing relationships with schools, students, families,
and volunteers. Chef Instructors will teach in both virtual and in-person settings.
All lessons emphasize using fresh, quality ingredients and adopting healthy cooking and
eating habits. Each week features the cuisine of a different country or world region
and / or a nutrition lesson, with recipes and tastings of typical foods from different
cultures.
This is a part-time variable hour position that generally works 5-10 hours a week when
classes are in session. Some nights and / or weekends may be required.
Responsibilities :
Work with students in Kindergarten-8th grades and their parents, and manage a
classroom of up to 25 participants and four volunteers
Teach kids and parents cooking skills and nutrition; give students the tools to
make healthy choices
Communicate with school and partner organization staff and administration as
well as with Common Threads staff
Instructors will be trained on the curriculum, policies and procedures, and
administrative responsibilities
Instructors are required to follow the approved course curriculum, complete all
grocery shopping and submit required documentation
Administer pre-and post-surveys to students and families and manage paperwork
as needed

Compensation & Benefits :
Compensation rates
Teaching classes range from $75 to $150 per lesson
For administrative duties (i.e., training, attending meetings,
documentation) is $20 / per hour
This position is grant-funded.
