Role Overview :
Incumbent serves as a security specialist for the Indiana State Museum to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for staff / guests and to prevent theft and / or damage to museum property including artifacts and exhibits The Security Specialist will provide efficient, courteous, and friendly services to guests / visitors to promote a pleasant and secure atmosphere.

The essential functions of this role are as follows :
- Patrols the Indiana State Museum, which encompasses two buildings (270,000 sq. ft.) connected by a 200-foot interior bridge as well as the immediate perimiter of the facility to protect the property and occupants against fire, vandalism, security violations, and other disturbances.
- Reports through verbal and written means, unusual circumstances, public safety hazards, or any other incidents to the Manager of Security, Security Coordinator, or appropriate law enforcement agencies.
- Monitors access to restricted and semi-restricted areas of the museum; ensures staff, visitors, volunteers, contractors, and guests have appropriate credentials.
- Ensures adherence to museum security policies by guests, visitors, volunteers, contractors, and staff.
- Communicates infractions of museum security policies when appropriate.
- Operates, monitors, and responds accordingly using various security communication systems (base radio, two-way radio, emergency phones), fire and security alarm systems (intrusion, space, point protection, smoke, heat, and pull station alarm), and closed caption television surveillance system, etc.
- Assist in traffic control duties near the museum's entrances / exits and loading docks as assigned.
- Ability to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently under direct supervision.
- Ability to handle emergencies including accidents, injuries, and possibly deaths.·Ability to effectively and professionally communicate on telephone and two-way radio.

POSITION SUMMARY :
Under general guidance, participates in the continuous, safe, and efficient operations and / or maintenance of an assigned functional area.
Provides training to others through day-to-day contact. Provides technical advice and counsel for difficult projects. Prioritizes, directs, monitors, and evaluates security workload of a particular area or facility within the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Must be certified with the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA)
2. Must maintain the Federal Firearms Qualification annually
3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience with a law enforcement agency
4. Well-developed planning, organizing, interpersonal and communication skills
5. Highly organized self-sufficient self-starter
6. Must complete and pass all HR requirements including medical / criminal background / drug testing / BMV
7. To be considered for this position, a candidate must either be an active or retired law enforcement officer
8. Must be able to use a computer, navigate computer applications including but not limited to physical access systems, security cameras, time keeping, incident reporting program and email
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Assist in ensuring the safety and security of employees, customers, contractors, and assets by patrolling facilities, controlling physical access, responding to incidents and alarms, coordinating initial crisis management response, preparing internal reports, assisting employees with unruly individuals.
2. Act as liaison between the company and law enforcement.
3. Communicate activities and incidents with the Intelligence Security Operations Center (iSOC) and management.
4. Adhere to company policies and procedures that include participating in company-mandated training sessions such as annual training and certification in Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), pursuant to federal mandates.
5. Manage the shift schedule for Security Officers at the assigned location.
