Role Overview :

Incumbent serves as a security specialist for the Indiana State Museum to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for staff / guests and to prevent theft and / or damage to museum property including artifacts and exhibits The Security Specialist will provide efficient, courteous, and friendly services to guests / visitors to promote a pleasant and secure atmosphere.

The Incumbent will be required to work weekends, holidays, and a flexible schedule to accommodate increased guests / visitors and public utilization.

A Day in the Life :

The essential functions of this role are as follows :

  • Patrols the Indiana State Museum, which encompasses two buildings (270,000 sq. ft.) connected by a 200-foot interior bridge as well as the immediate perimiter of the facility to protect the property and occupants against fire, vandalism, security violations, and other disturbances.
  • Reports through verbal and written means, unusual circumstances, public safety hazards, or any other incidents to the Manager of Security, Security Coordinator, or appropriate law enforcement agencies.
  • Monitors access to restricted and semi-restricted areas of the museum; ensures staff, visitors, volunteers, contractors, and guests have appropriate credentials.
  • Ensures adherence to museum security policies by guests, visitors, volunteers, contractors, and staff.
  • Communicates infractions of museum security policies when appropriate.
  • Operates, monitors, and responds accordingly using various security communication systems (base radio, two-way radio, emergency phones), fire and security alarm systems (intrusion, space, point protection, smoke, heat, and pull station alarm), and closed caption television surveillance system, etc.
  • Assist in traffic control duties near the museum's entrances / exits and loading docks as assigned.
  • Ability to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently under direct supervision.
  • Ability to handle emergencies including accidents, injuries, and possibly deaths.·Ability to effectively and professionally communicate on telephone and two-way radio.
  • Ability to maintain a professional personal appearance.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

What You'll Need for Success :

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment :

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of law enforcement, security, and fire inspection procedures.
  • Ability to operate sophisticated surveillance systems.
  • Ability to read with comprehension, follow written and verbal orders, write reports, and maintain logs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to visitors / guests, and staff members and have a working knowledge of visitor experience service standards.
  • Incumbents must be able to effectively provide information to visitors, communicate by telephone and radio, and write legibly.
  • The Incumbent is representing ISMHS management during evening hours and weekends and is expected to

conduct himself or herself in a professional manner that is favorable to ISMHS.

A Day in the Life :

  • Complies with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.

About the Job :

As a Special Attendant, you will provide care and support to patients by encouraging involvement in groups, social activities, and other therapeutic measures.

In this position, you will collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals to determine and provide the best care practices.

You will also maintain a safe and secure environment through de-escalation techniques and will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the patients on the unit.

A Day in the Life :

The essential functions of this role are as follows :

  • Ensure security of residents and maintain orderliness which occasionally requires restraining unruly, dangerous residents.
  • Escort residents to and from various activity and therapy areas within building and off-grounds for medical, dental, or legal needs ensuring maximum security.
  • Assist in the implementation of resident’s treatment plan.
  • Monitor patients during meals, classroom time, bathroom time, and in general areas.
  • Observe, report, and record the condition and behavior of residents.
  • Demonstrate therapeutic interventions using the principles of de-escalation, re-direction, and approved techniques for prevention and management of behavior.
  • Assist residents in cleaning and caring for their living areas, clothing, and supplies.
  • Supervise and / or participate with groups of patients in social and recreational activities and encourage cooperation.
  • Secure doors, search visitors, operate radio system, issue keys, and escort visitors to various areas of the unit.
  • Conduct searches of patient's rooms, searching for possible contraband, and ensure the safety of each patient.
  • This position may have mandatory overtime.

What You'll Need for Success :

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment :

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE).
  • Certified or willing to become certified in professional rescuer CPR / AED.
  • Specialized knowledge of, and ability to apply, psychiatric nursing care practices including administering medications.
  • Ability to write reports and keep records and charts accurately.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and to control adverse behavior
  • Specialized knowledge of, and ability to apply, behavior modification, self-defense and restraining techniques as needed without injury to residents.
  • Working knowledge of resident's behavior and ability to anticipate and deal with behavior changes on a daily basis.
  • Working knowledge of institution and unit procedures.
  • Ability to perform and assist residents in performing housekeeping duties and daily living activities.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to be on high alert for your entire shift, up to 16 hours

Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports :

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports; however, supervision may be assigned based on agency needs.
