ROLE of the POSITION

Student Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) at the University of Nevada Las Vegas is seeking qualified applicants for a Psychological Assistant / Staff Psychologist / Senior Staff Psychologist position.

CAPS is an IACS-accredited center within the Student Wellness unit that includes the departments of health center, behavioral health, CARE center, wellness education and health promotion, disability resource center, military and veteran services, and the office of student conduct.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic and integrated service delivery model that offers comprehensive wellness services to a diverse student population.

CAPS also has an APA-accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship Program. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

  • General responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, time-effective individual, couples, and group therapy;
  • crisis assessment and intervention; consultation, and outreach programming to the university community; supervision of doctoral interns and graduate trainees;

and participation on divisional and university committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Psychological Assistant : This position requires a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from a regionally accredited college or university.

Demonstrated experience and training in generalist counseling is required. Candidates are required to attain licensure as a Psychologist in Nevada within 8 months from the date of hire for postdoctoral candidates and 18 months from the date of hire for new doctoral graduates.

Staff Psychologist : This position requires a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from a regionally accredited college or university.

Demonstrated experience and training in generalist counseling is required. Licensure for independent practice as a psychologist is required and Nevada licensure for independent practice is required prior to the start of employment.

Senior Staff Psychologist : This position requires a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from a regionally accredited college or university.

Demonstrated experience and training in generalist counseling is required. Licensure for independent practice as a psychologist is required and Nevada licensure for independent practice is required prior to the start of employment.

Additionally, candidates must have 5 years of licensed related clinical work experience as a psychologist.

Successful candidates for all roles will have strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills, competency in working with a diverse student population, demonstrated skills in supervision and training, and experience in brief therapy and group counseling.

A desire to work in a collaborative setting and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. All candidates must pass a background screening.

Some evening / weekend activities required.

Candidates from an APA-accredited training program are preferred. Candidates from an APA-accredited training program and those with professional experience working in a university counseling center are preferred.

  • The current vacancy is for a generalist; however, there is a preference for candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas : alcohol and other drug assessment and treatment;
  • a passion for group therapy; the provision of clinical services in Spanish; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) focus; eating disorder treatment;

treatment of anxiety disorders / OCD; treatment of ADHD; social media / technology as it relates to mental health; and / or treatment of autism spectrum concerns.

REVISED* SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Salary commensurate with experience. Minimum for staff psychologist : $95,000.

Minimum for senior staff psychologist $100,000.
