The Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of San Diego invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in public law.

Successful candidates should be committed to excellent, inclusive teaching at the lower and upper division levels, and engage in student advising.

Candidates will pursue a scholarly agenda and engage in service at the departmental, college, and university levels. The teaching load is three courses per semester.

The University of San Diego is a teaching focused liberal arts institution, and all faculty in the department of Political Science and International Relations are committed to offering a range of courses aligned with their interests and in support of the departmental curriculum.

The candidate will offer courses that address the relationships between the law, politics, and structural inequity, with a specific expectation that they will regularly offer upper division courses in Constitutional Law and lower division courses in political theory and / or race and ethnic politics.

Within the scope of these parameters, the position is open to teacher-scholars of a variety of sub-disciplinary approaches to public law, including law & society, political theory, judicial politics, legal institutions, critical legal studies, politics of race & ethnicity, feminist legal theory, or comparative law.

The successful candidate will also contribute courses in other core areas of departmental curricular need and participate actively in student advising, including especially pre-law advising.

In addition to outlining their own interests in and approaches to teaching and research in a liberal arts environment, candidates should also describe how their research or teaching connects to one or more of the following three cluster themes in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The RN should be able to do the following : perform a variety of medical procedures at a skilled professional level; provide professional nursing functions and support service to the physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, other RN’s and Medical Assistants by screening patients, and assisting with exams and procedures;

perform related tasks as required. Periodically, this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division / campus projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities.

This is an 11 month position.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Employee must possess a clear knowledge of and competence in the following :

  • Perform all routine medical procedures per delineation of privileges and nursing protocols.
  • Perform all necessary opening and closing procedures.
  • Serve as triage nurse, evaluate the needs of students presenting in person or by telephone.
  • Respond to phone calls from students who have medical questions. Follow up on those students who are seriously ill.
  • Serve as appointment nurse, evaluating and treating students independently and in collaboration with providers per protocols.
  • Instruct and prepare patients for examination and diagnostic procedures.
  • Assist in examination and special procedures to include, but not limited to : Injections, diagnostic procedures, minor surgery (i.

e. removal of stitches), and other special tasks per Delineation of Privileges.

  • Assist and / or implement the referral process, provide patient education, advise patient on self-care, needed follow up and suggested behaviors.
  • Perform a variety of license specific nursing procedures at a skilled professional level, to include (but not limited to) wound care, dressing changes, pulmonary treatments, peak flow monitoring, venipuncture, urinalysis, suture removal, IV starts, and ear lavage.
  • Monitor laboratory results and special studies to include advising patients of test results after the appropriate medical practitioner approval and advisement or as directed by standing orders.
  • Maintain the stock, cleanliness and utility of exam rooms, laboratory, dispensary, and work areas. Must assure the sterility and safe handling of supplies and equipment.

Is responsible for the maintenance of properly functioning equipment.

  • Ability to handle emergent and / or potentially critical situations with speed, accuracy and diplomacy.
  • Know correct procedure for all documentation, paper work including, but not limited to; lab work and log sheets, immunization program, drug screening, and special lab tests.
  • Must assure patient privacy at all times and maintain patient confidentiality. Fully knowledgeable of Federal HIPAA and FERPA requirements.

Support ancillary personnel in maintenance and coordination of immunization records.

  • Dispense pre-packaged, labeled, properly identified medications to patient on a patient specific order. Dispense non-prescription meds in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Familiarized with duties of front office to provide back-up support for Executive Assistant(s) as needed (i.e. telephone protocol, appointments, computer access etc).

  • Participate in weekly QA and educational meetings to be held at the SHC.

The Pastry Chef supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the work of the baker and other baking staff members. Typically, they perform the more difficult baking duties and participate in the recipe and product development.

They will assist the Chef de Cuisine and Chef Manager in the development of departmental goals.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Bakery Production

  • Complete responsibility for bakery preparation, including production, Retail Bakery, chocolate shop, special functions, catering, and special desserts for La Gran Terraza.
  • Responsible for the quality and quantity preparation of all bakery production.
  • Reviews menu, assigns and coordinates daily workload, and organizes work areas to ensure ease of operation.
  • Checks production sheets against inventory to ensure necessary items are on hand; plans for backup items as needed.
  • Forecasts proper quantity preparation for each item served.
  • Ensures products are made to specification; reviews recipes for variances in the finished product, including yield, appearance, taste, and texture;

takes corrective action.

  • Determines correct methods of bakery preparation; instructs staff in correct methods.
  • Coordinates and instructs staff in appropriate sequential production time frames for maximum quality control.
  • Responsible for ordering products and supplies for daily production needs.
  • Responsible for proper storage, dating, rotation of product, and utilization of leftovers.

The dispatcher is generally the first point of contact for the campus community, faculty, staff, students, guests, and visitors needing information or assistance from Public Safety.

The dispatcher is responsible for maintaining effective and efficient communications between public safety officers, kiosk officers, outside emergency and law enforcement agencies, the university community, and visiting public.

They are responsible for answering and dispatching public safety officers to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and performing various technical tasks operating technically advanced and complex alarm computer systems, video surveillance systems, and mobile radio systems.

They use a computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) to input, retrieve and generate reports. The dispatcher must demonstrate good judgment and discretion in stressful situations;

use independent judgment for problem-solving and is expected to analyze situations, prioritize quickly, and make decisions immediately when dealing with emergencies and general calls for service.

In addition to handling emergency, non-emergency, and informational requests for the department, dispatchers assist the campus community and visitors with requests for service and general information.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Answer and screen incoming emergency and non-emergency public safety calls for service to elicit and record pertinent information;

dispatch calls for service, critical incidents, and emergency calls; coordinate calls for outside emergency and law enforcement agency assistance.

Day-to-day assignments performed require regular use of judgment and discretion, essential to set priorities, assess the importance of information, and react quickly and effectively, following established protocols and procedures in most instances.

Incumbents are accountable for actions taken.

Contacting on-call counselors, CARE advocates, medical providers, facilities department, university administrators, and allied agencies following established procedures;

  • Maintain radio contact with public safety personnel on assignment and keep supervisors and officers informed of current situations while monitoring campus alarm and video systems as well as monitoring public safety radio frequencies of the surrounding community for any activity that would impact the university’s safety and security.
  • Utilize alarms, cameras, university records (Cognos and CSGold), door access, and parking computer systems to maintain and retrieve data in CAD following established procedures;

and at the request of officers when responding to an incident and in need of field support.

Monitor and review live and recorded camera system for safety and security concerns, that include but are not limited to : high-risk areas, restricted access areas, response to alarms or suspicious behaviors, and special events;

conducting follow-up and investigative review of the camera and door access systems related to open cases at the officer’s request.

  • Coordinate with appropriate Residential Life staff on calls for service regarding student conduct and wellness, providing communication between departments, and ensuring the students involved have access to support and campus resources.
  • Assist with remote Unlocks / Lock Ups in the door access system following established procedures to ensure the safety and security of the campus community and property.
  • Assist the campus community or visitors at the walkup window with requests for service and general information.
  • Activate mass emergency notification, and campus lockdown or evacuation, when directed or required by Standard Operating Procedure.

Act as liaison between Emergency Operation Center and Dispatch when posted at the incident Command Center.

  • Process, respond, and document Records Requests for outside agencies performing background checks on former USD staff and students
  • Process lost and found items turned into public safety by receiving, documenting, and entering the item information into a computer database and responding to inquiries about lost and found items.
