Job Title : Parks & Recreation Maintenance Technician I (Seasonal)
FLSA : Non-Exempt
This is a summer seasonal position with the possibility of flexible work hours / days.
Season dates are expected to run from now until 11 / 15 / 2023.
NATURE OF WORK :
Under direct supervision, provides front line labor for the Parks and Recreation department.Works cooperatively with the Recreation Supervisor and Director toward the completion of assigned projects.
Performs recreation services and maintenance of trails and facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1)Construction and Maintenance of Summer and Winter Activities
Performs required labor involved in trail construction.
Performs required labor involved with year-round maintenance of summer and winter trails.
Prepares and maintains ice skating rink in a safe manner for public use (winter season only).
Collects trash, recycling, and dog refuse from collection bins, trails and common areas.Stocks trail maps.
Uses hand tools to shovel snow, chip ice, pack out tracks, rake berms, pickaxe rocks, shovel dirt, dig holes, and perform all other outdoor labor related activities associated with winter and / or summer recreational venues.
2) Safety Recognizes, practices, and enforces safety rules and procedures when performing any and all tasks associated with this position Reports unsafe actions, conditions and injuries to the Recreation Supervisor immediately
Participates in regular safety tailgate trainings
Wears all required safety apparel and personal protective equipment (PPE) including wearing seat belts when operating any town vehicle
Strict commitment to personal safety and the safety of co-workers
3) Special Projects
Assists other departments with special projects as needed
Promote use of recreational facilities
Always performs duties with attention to minimizing impacts to the environment including water conservation, natural products, chemical use, recycling and Zero Waste, energy and fuel conservation.
Performs all tasks in a friendly and professional manner at all times, assists and provides information to residents and guests, subcontractors and merchants with utmost attention to quality customer service
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High School diploma / GED. Experience in previous summer and winter parks and recreational duties preferred. Experience operating four wheelers, hand tools and light equipment preferred.
Licenses / Certification(s) :
Possession of a valid Colorado State Driver’s License is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED :
Knowledge of : Principles and practices of recreation maintenance; regulations governing the maintenance of recreation facilities and trails;
trail construction and maintenance principles; equipment and tools relative to recreation maintenance and construction
Skill in : Ability to speak, read, hear, write and comprehend the English language at a high school graduate level. Ability to read and understand documents, plans, and maps pertaining to Mountain Village facilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.Employee must be able to operate hand tools, power tools, and various pieces of equipment.
Use of hand tools, and operating four wheelers.
Environmental Factors : Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme weather conditions, unstable ice, high winds, falling trees, and animal feces.
Physical Factors : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to operate heavy equipment, perform manual labor, stand, walk, snowshoe and ski for extended periods of time.
The employee will be required to walk, climb and move objects on ice.The employee must be able to lift or move up to 100 pounds.
The employee must be willing and able to hike and snowshoe uphill for a minimum distance of two miles over one thousand vertical feet in all summer and winter weather conditions.
