JOB DESCRIPTION :

The Investment Data Quality Analyst will monitor the quality of data from which the Investment Management Division's data consumers make informed decisions.

This person will examine complex data to optimize the efficiency and quality of the data being collected, resolve data quality problems, and collaborate with database developers to improve systems and database designs.

The Investment Data Quality Analyst will develop procedures to enhance the accuracy and integrity of the Investment Management Division's (IMD) data.

This person will be performing data analysis, collaborating with developers to enhance data collection and storage procedures, and preparing data analysis reports.

MUST HAVE JOB SKILLS :

Required Skills & Experience

  • BA / BS or Master's degree with emphasis on coursework of a quantitative nature (, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Sciences)
  • years of experience with SQL and relational databases including queries, database definition and schema design
  • years of experience writing and maintaining ETL on a variety of structured and unstructured sources
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

In-depth experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence Suite (Microsoft SSAS, SSIS, SSRS) and modern data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)

  • Basic experience with Azure analytics
  • Experience working in Agile SCRUM teams
  • Experienced with financial markets (Stocks, FX, Derivatives)

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Sourcing data via REST web services
  • Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
  • Advanced Excel (Pivot tables, VBA)
  • years of solid Python development

Performs complex (journey-level) investment related financial analysis work. Work involves analyzing and reconciling investment data, preparing reports, participating in strategic initiatives, and implementing process improvement projects.

This position will support TRS's Investment Data Modernization initiative. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

This position reports to the Manager of Investment Operations.

Data Analysis and Reconciliation % Monitors, verifies, reconciles, and reports investment valuations and performance information including holdings, exposures, notional values, gains and losses, collateral balances, cash balances, returns, and trade life cycle events using systems including but not limited to internal applications, platforms, SQL databases, Excel and PowerBI.

Analyzes market data, pricing, trading information, corporate actions, and other issues that affect portfolio valuation, performance, risk, compliance, and regulations.

Researches and explains the causes of discrepancies on investment book of record data on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including conferring with internal and external investment managers, accounting, custodian, and investment systems.

Leads transaction communications between front office and trade operations and takes appropriate action to ensure accurate data flow between parties, including internal and external investment systems.

Understands investment risk management and collaborates with internal investment risk team, custodian, and investment systems to ensure proper methodology.

Has knowledge of compliance rules to ensure accuracy of compliance results and supports the front office in resolution with the ability to verify and explain results.

Manages data quality, synthesizes data, and integrates analytics for investment decision making.

Reporting % Compiles data and prepares detailed periodic and ad hoc reports on data reconciliation, portfolio valuation, holdings, fees, expenses, and other investment information using report writing, database, spreadsheet, and other software, for use by agency management, Investment staff, the legislature, and vendors, and to provide information requested under the Open Records Act.

Prepares, generates, and analyzes data for investment decision-making, including exposures, compliance, portfolio views, performance, risk, liquidity, fees, Management Committee, and Board reporting.

Portfolio Services % Participates in or leads data modernization and transformation related projects to implement investment platforms or improve system integration between internal and external applications or other third-party software.

Actively researches and identifies areas for improvement and automation for data quality control (QC), workflows, business processes, operations, reporting, and investment systems.

Updates and maintains operational documentation, policies, and procedures. Facilitates resolutions cross-organization. Has knowledge of data governance, data models,

Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, finance, accounting, math, information technology or a closely related area.

A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Experience : One () year of full-time investment operations, data management, accounting, financial analysis, trade settlement or related experience requiring compilation, reconciliation, and / or analysis of detailed information.

Skill in organizing and coordinating work assignments to effectively meet frequent and / or multiple deadlines, handling multiple tasks simultaneously, and managing conflicting priorities and demands.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication of information, including skill in presenting analysis and recommendations.

Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, agency staff and external contacts, and to work effectively in a professional team environment.

Experience with leading or assisting in process improvement. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to adapt to changing requirements.

Experience with the Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook.

Experience : Three () years of full-time investment operations, data management, accounting, financial analysis, trade settlement or related experience requiring compilation, reconciliation, and / or analysis of detailed information.

Experience with trade settlement or reporting of investment data, securities, private markets and / or derivatives. (Experience may be concurrent) Experience with software languages, database and report writing technology (SQL, SSRS, and PowerBI).

Experience implementing, maintaining, or managing investment or data platforms. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and / or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) or working towards CPA / CFA / CAIA.

Basic understanding of capital markets, investment securities (equities, bonds, and derivatives), and / or private markets (real estate or private equity).

Basic understanding of investment performance measurement.
