POSITION TITLE : Environmental Educator (seasonal)

CAMP SPECIFIC : Yes

REPORTS TO : Environmental Education Program Coordinator and Assistant Director

SUPERVISES : none

GENERAL INTRODUCTION :

Each position employed with Camping and Guest Services helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE :

To provide an experience that encourages students to develop an appreciation and care for God's creation through Catholic reflections, scientific observation and investigations.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES :

Implement the Environmental Education program as the primary point of contact for students.

Plan and lead instructional lessons incorporating established curriculum and resources.

Ensure the health and safety of assigned students and chaperones.

Create an atmosphere which makes all school participants feel comfortable and welcome.

Lead evening activities with students and be on call 1-2 evenings assigned.

Demonstrate servant leadership through general camp support- high ropes facilitation, kitchen and facilities clean-up, luggage transportation, etc.

Participate in pre and post session camp set up and clean-up.

Assist in the evaluation of the program at the end of the season.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

Primary :

Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.

A good example for youth.

Education : High school diploma

High school diploma

Experience :

Previous experience working with children.

Other Elements :

Commitment to the mission and values of CYO.

Strong communication skills, with an ability to work with individuals and groups.

Basic knowledge of environmental science preferred or ability to learn the curriculum.

Current CPR / First aid required or willingness to obtain.

Willingness to obtain Small Craft Safety Certification and Challenge Course training during staff training.

Willingness to work outside in a variety of weather for long periods.

Ability to work evenings and / or weekends and live on site in rustic facilities while programs are in session.

Description

I. POSITION PURPOSE

To greet and welcome visitors and callers and provide clerical assistance as needed.

II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Assures a hospitable and welcoming presence for parish visitors, providing appropriate assistance and / or referral to visitors.

Answers telephone and assures accurate and prompt transmission of messages.

B. Provides general information to persons calling or visiting the parish. Utilizes other church, social service, community and / or government directories to provide accurate and helpful information to persons.

C. Assist Office Manager in scheduling of parish facilities by approved organizations. Develops and maintains a calendar that identifies the time, date, name of organization, as well as room scheduled to use.

Coordinates the use of keys for parish facilities as directed.

D. Assist Office Manager with event planning and execution as needed.

E. Provides clerical assistance as requested by the supervisor including calling to schedule or confirm meetings, filing, collating, copying, sorting and preparing labels.

F. Opens and distributes incoming mail and ensures the mailing of outgoing mail.

G. Provides assistance to parishioners requesting Mass requests and Mass cards and provides information about stipends.

H. Manages the parish Safe Environment Program Compliance requirements.

I. Scheduled work hours per pay period will be 40 hours.
