Summary

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides medical and nursing assistance under the direction of physician or nursing staff within their certified capabilities.

Assists providers with all aspects of patient care such as taking vital signs, rooming patients, entering history and other documentation in the electronic medical records, educating patients, assisting with office procedures, assisting with patient treatment plans and follow up, answering the phone, and assisting with the daily operations of the clinic.

Communicates and coordinates information in a knowledgeable and courteous manner with staff, patients, and families.

Maintains confidentiality with patients, staff, and guests.

Grant funded.

Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 p.m. Some Saturdays

Full-time employees : May be eligible to earn 1 retention payments in 2022 totaling $2,900 on December 9th.

Note : Employees must be employed on each payment date to be eligible.

Part-time and Substitute employees : May be eligible to earn 1 retention payments in 2022 totalin g $500 on December 9th.

Note : To be eligible, part-time and substitute employees must work an average of 16 hours in specific months preceding the payment dates and be employed on each payment date to be eligible.

  • Rotates between various Clinical Services' specialty medical clinics as assigned.
  • Rotates and flexes from front desk and patient care coordination as assigned.
  • Documents all patient-related communications and interventions in patient electronic health records.
  • Collects data and processes messages from patients and front office to physicians and associate provider.
  • Takes telephone and e-mail messages as well as medication refill requests from patients and provides feedback and answers to patient, physicians, and pharmacy per physician protocol.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patient, measures vital signs (including weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature), and documents in patient charts.
  • Assists the physician and other clinical staff with procedures and treatments.
  • May assist the physician with medical scribing.
  • May observe patient response to medications administered and report adverse events to provider.
  • Where applicable, performs phlebotomy and other specimen collection in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards including control testing.
  • Coordinates patient testing and referrals as well as consultations when necessary.
  • Maintains all logs and required checks for refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, equipment sterilization, etc.
  • Prepares, restocks, and disinfects examination rooms, procedure rooms, lab area, and all other patient care areas at scheduled intervals, and as needed.
  • Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, Standing Delegated Orders and storage procedures for medication administration, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times according to policy and procedures and HIPAA requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, manager, or practice administrator.
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health department as assigned or required.

Minimum Requirements

Must have completed a nationally-recognized, accredited medical assistant training program, including a practicum (externship) of at least 160 hours

Must have successfully completed a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces .

Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Must have MA Certification from a nationally-recognized and accredited certifying body including, but not limited to, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), awarding the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA);
  • the American Medical Technologists (AMT), awarding the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); the National Center for Competency Testing, awarding the National Certified MA (NCMA);

the National Health Career Association, awarding the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); or the National Association for Health Professionals, awarding the Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA).

Must have a valid and current driver license. Note : A Texas driver license is required to hold the position.

Good communication skills.

Must be active listener in order to understand and accurately record patient issues and specifications.

Must also be capable of clearly articulating instructions to the patient and effectively communicating information, both written and spoken, to other health care professionals working with the patient.

Organizational and clerical skills.

Must have a good working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic procedures like drawing blood or dressing a wound.

Knowledge of first aid and CPR may also be required.

Must be aware of personal and patient safety at all times. Understanding and practicing safety and sanitation protocols is essential.

Must be competent in a variety of administrative tasks.

Must be competent in the use of EHRs (Electronic Health Records).

Must treat patients with sensitivity and respect.

Must be flexible in work assignments based on clinical and staffing needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts telephone screening and interviews to determine financial eligibility.
  • Conducts an assessment of strengths and barriers to becoming self-sufficient.
  • Determines eligibility based on knowledge and compliance of Tarrant County Department of Human Services Policy and Procedures.
  • Provides individualized application packets to applicant via email, mail and office pick-up.
  • Generates Notice of Denial in the Case Management System (CMS) for the applicant. Provides explanation for denial of services.
  • Maintains appropriate documents and records with case notes.
  • Refers clients to appropriate community resources. Provides information and referral to applicants / clients to appropriate community resources such as agencies, churches, community partners and other public programs.
  • Conducts telephone screenings and interviews required to serve applicants in the call center.
  • Provides back up for the Call Center to complete telephone screening intakes.
  • Completes data entry in the CMS for telephone screening intakes and online applications.
  • Assists with agency outreach at community events.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs and conducts inquests to determine the cause and manner of death including the following : reviews investigation narrative to establish case jurisdiction and to make initial determination regarding the scope of inquest and case assignments;
  • directs and provides oversight to the activities of the support staff assisting in inquest; performs external examinations, partial autopsies, and complete autopsies;
  • collects specimens and evidentiary materials and requests appropriate analyses to assist with determination of cause and manner of death;

prepares written reports regarding case findings including interpretation of specialized analyses; and issues death certificates.

  • In preparing written reports, follows the approved department operating procedures and professional standards established by National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME).
  • Testifies in local, state, and federal court proceedings as an expert forensic witness.
  • Maintains good working relationships with other agencies and county, state, and federal departments.
  • Maintains a good working knowledge of medical skills and processes, advances in technology, best practices in industry standard, legislative initiatives, and regulations for activities in the work area as well as advanced leadership skills to direct the work unit.
  • Interacts with families, physicians, law enforcement agents, funeral directors, and justices of peace regarding findings as needed.
  • Maintains education and training programs including Morning Mortality Meeting, Critical Case Review, Journal Club, Child Fatality Review, and Current Trends in Forensic Science and professional conferences for work unit.
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Medical Examiner’s Office as required.

Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology preferred upon hire. Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology required within two (2) years of hire.

Note : Recent graduates of forensic fellowship programs are required to have board certification in Anatomic Pathology and will be allowed one (1) year to obtain board certification in forensic pathology.

During the period before obtaining board certification in Forensic Pathology, all casework performed shall be reviewed and approved by the Chief Medical Examiner.

Must be eligible for and obtain a Texas medical license within thirty days of hire. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and the ability to articulate important information and concepts is required.
