REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate from an approved, accredited Vocational / Practical Nurse program located in a state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.
  • Current, full and unrestricted LVN / LPN license in the state of Texas.
  • One year of professional experience as a licensed vocational nurse / licensed practical nurse.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers® certification through the American Heart Association®.
  • Ability to pass a federal government security background check.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct care to patients within discipline Scope of Practice and performs functions in accordance with current accepted practice, licensure, certification, credentialing, and granted privileges.
  • Provides treatment of persons throughout the life span as appropriate to discipline and facility setting.
  • May be expected to respond to and coordinate response to medical emergencies.
  • Evaluates health care needs of residents and assists RN in the development of nursing care plans to meet those needs.
  • Must adhere to practical nursing principles, procedures and techniques for appropriate patient care and take direction from registered nurses and onsite administrative personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 10 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to respond to any medical emergency within 4 minutes, where a fast walk or jog may be necessary to provide assistance.
  • Required to perform CPR / emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured or aging detainees or staff exiting the building during an emergency (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with or without the use of aides if necessary (exceptions on a case-by-case basis).
  • Must easily alternate between kneeling and standing.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds.
  • Must be capable of standing on hard surfaces (cement floors) for long periods of time.

JOB SUMMARY :

The Medical Receptionist supports a team of RNs, a Primary Care Physician and occasionally Mid-Level Providers. The Medical Receptionist is responsible for scheduling, answering calls, monitoring National Park Service (NPS) emergency communication traffic and supporting the patient life cycle from entry to exit.

Collecting patient information and recording the information into the EMR is essential for the patient to room as directed by the RN.

Primary reporting will be to the Charge Nurse and Clinic Administrator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Welcomes patients and visitors in person or on the telephone, answers inquiries or directing them to the appropriate department or staff member, scheduling appointments
  • Maintains patient records, accounts, and insurance information.
  • Optimizes patients’ satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient’s arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, and reminding providers of service delays
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties, answering patients’ questions, and maintaining the reception area
  • Acts as the designated liaison for providers and other internal departments regarding payment accuracy
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information
  • Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information, recording and collecting patient charges, controlling credit extended to patients, and filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims
  • Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, and scheduling equipment service and repairs
  • Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies
  • Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures
  • Communicates billing discrepancies to Accounting and other STG International, Inc. departments
  • Performs thorough review of medical records for identification of relevant clinical diagnoses and procedures performed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Associates Degree in Medical Terminology, Medical Assistant, or other healthcare related field
  • 2 years higher education or applicable experience
  • 2-5 years Front Office, Health Unit Coordinator or administrative receptionist experience
  • Three years of experience collecting, organizing, and maintaining health insurance and processing medical claims
  • Familiarity with medical coding, or equivalency

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

This is a primarily sedentary position in an office setting that may exert up to 30 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This position involves sitting most of the time but may be exposed to adverse environmental conditions to and from workplace.

Must be comfortable walking, standing and occasional kneeling while performing clerical duties throughout the clinic.
