Position Summary

This position is to function as a member of the clinical team and completes assigned daily clinical operations to ensure smooth day to day operations in the SMG physician practice.

The Medical Assistant I must maintain a professional, positive manner when talking with patients (and all customers) in-person, over the phone or via email.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works closely with providers to assist in delivering world class care to patients.
  • Provides a high level of customer service to all new and existing patients of the practice.
  • Rooms patient and prepares the patient for the provider visit.
  • Takes vital signs as necessary. Responsible for accurate blood pressures, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, respiratory rates and entering accurately into EMR.
  • Records patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc into EMR for physical.
  • Obtains required consents, completes required forms as needed for specific visit types.
  • Performs in office testing and EKGs as needed. Required to perform controls on certain in-office tests.
  • Assists provider with in-office medical procedures.
  • Properly labels all specimens, adhering to SMG policy.
  • Chaperones Providers as required.
  • Administers vaccines and medications as ordered by provider, adhering to SMG policies.
  • Responsible to follow TCM (Transitional Care Management), CCM (Chronic Care Management) and RPM (Remote Patient Monitoring) workflows if active in the practice.
  • Stocks rooms and monitors expiration dates of exam room supplies.
  • Monitors and logs medication / vaccine refrigerator temperatures.
  • Assists with incoming calls as needed by answering, triaging, and routing telephone calls appropriately as needed.
  • Follows scheduling rules and direct schedules patient visits in other SMG practices.
  • Reviews schedules (clinical pre-visit review) to ensure the provider has what the patient visit is for. Example : results, consult notes, hospital notes etc.

If not available, contacts facility or other practice to obtain them.

  • Schedules patient appointments and appropriate testing as ordered by provider upon check out from appointments or any other time as requested.
  • Performs outreach to select patient groups as directed for patient care and quality and then schedules specialty appointments and testing as required.
  • Responsible to inform manager of clinical supply needs or assists with ordering.
  • Responsible to obtain prior authorizations and / or insurance referrals as per practice need.
  • Works assigned clinical buckets timely.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Adheres to SMG policies.
  • Always uses discretion to ensure patient confidentiality.

Skills

  • Strong customer service excellence expected.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience with EMR strongly preferred. (Athena preferred but not required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Education from approved medical assistant program or equivalent.
  • One to three years as a medical assistant preferred.

Social Worker

The role of the Social Worker is to assist patients and family members of patients within Steward Medical Group physician practices.

The objective of the Social Worker is to identify psychosocial problems that are often overlooked or go unnoticed. The Social Worker is the bridge that connects primary and behavioral health care.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist in the identification, assessment and treatment of mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety.
  • Provide case management / care coordination for individuals with chronic and / or complex medical conditions.
  • Provide patient navigation, especially for patients moving among different health care levels (inpatient, outpatient, home health or long term care).
  • Identify and refer for specialized services, such as drug and alcohol treatment, legal services, finaicial and employment counseling and housing support.

Summary :

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Service Director and according to established policies and procedures, performs various Clinical Laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory.

Analyzes and interprets test results and ensures accuracy of same. Uses technical competencies and judgment to respond and handle situations as they arise.

Assists with the Laboratory PI program, ordering of supplies, developing procedures and other areas as needed. Senior technologists assume responsibility for charge duties when the Lab Service Director or Assistant Lab Director is not on-site.

Minimum Knowledge :

One of the following certifications is required for Medical Technologist : CLS (NCA), MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), or MT (AMT)

  • Recent graduates from approved program within the last 6 months must be certified within 12 months after hire.
  • For ASCP certification after 2004 must maintain active credential status to maintain employment.

JOB SUMMARY : Assesses and treats patients with physical disorders. Plans treatment programs relevant to physical dysfunction.

Performs appropriate Occupational Therapy evaluations. Designs and implements appropriate treatment plans based on the analysis and interpretation of evaluation results.

Under the general direction of the Security Manager, the Security Officer protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises and patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism.

Secures, unlocks, and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of the hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.

Participates in performance improvement activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises. Deescalates all potentially tense situations. Immediately contacts local police prior to any physical altercations.
  • Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Diligently reports any suspicious activity and investigates accidents, incidents, and criminal acts.
  • Secures, locks, and protects hospital buildings and grounds.
  • Responds quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Assists hospital staff in de-escalation of tense situations and responds immediately to support the safety of staff.
  • Ensures only authorized persons are admitted onto hospital property. Assists with inquiries made by patients, visitors, or other employees.
  • Maintains current information in daily activity reports / logs, incident reports, lost and found logs, etc.
  • Serves as a member of the emergency response team and responds to codes appropriately.
  • Reports all safety and fire hazards, investigates incidents of unusual circumstances, and reports all incidents to supervisor.
  • Supports all fire / life safety / emergency management drills and education initiatives.
  • Documents incident reports in an accurate and timely manner. Follows appropriate investigative procedures.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to all areas of the hospital.
  • Successfully completes hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements in a timely manner.
  • Manage access control at various entrances by ensuring all staff, patients, visitors, and vendors are authorized to gain entry for business / service purposes.
  • Assists with the operation of security systems : CCTV, access control, and incident reporting.
  • Assists in maintaining regulatory requirements, including state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, staff, and vendors.
  • Should an emergency situation arise (weather related or other emergency related events), senior management may require security staff to remain at the hospital in order to ensure the well-being of our patients is uncompromised and hospital operations are uninterrupted.

While these situations are unusual and at times unpredictable, our security staff should be prepared to remain on site.

  • Remains keenly alert at all times, alerting all employees, patients, and others to possible threats or situations requiring immediate attention.
