The Manufacturing Engineer will help coordinate and assist with production welding projects within Manufacturing Technology.

Projects may vary from welding procedure development, equipment set-up and programming, quality improvement, cost reduction, and specification of Capital Expense equipment purchases.

This position is for a self-motivated, goal-driven engineer who displays an aptitude in many aspects of manufacturing and welding technology and an ability to successfully manage projects to completion.

The job requires an ability to develop project plans and communicate effectively throughout implementation. This person will report to Leadership within Manufacturing Engineering.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following :

Support and lead projects in the welding fabrication processes using the latest industry techniques to ensure processes are safe, efficient, and effective.

Use concepts that incorporate Lean, 5-S and flow line concepts.

  • Perform hands-on welding procedure development using procedure testing practices, visual, NDT, and destructive testing methods.
  • Provide written welding procedure specifications and documents, including WPS, quality control documents, and work instructions.
  • Perform set-up and programming of Automated welding process equipment including robotic welders. Ability to learn Cloos and Fanuc controller programming and functionality.
  • Updating files and programs that support manufacturing processes because of design engineering changes, including routings, BOM’s, prints and machine programs.
  • Actively lead teams in problem solving to drive results and improvements through the use of structural team problem solving techniques such as A3 and Four-Step Problem Solving.
  • Lead in the investigation and implementation of new welding technology / CapEX Projects to improve cost and efficiency of producing product.
  • Assist in the day-to-day resolution of problems arising on the production floor.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, most notably, internal customers and suppliers.
  • Demonstrate commitment to meeting and supporting departmental, divisional, and company goals / objectives / strategies.
  • Demonstrate good report preparation, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Create project plans and successfully manage / oversee projects through completion in a timely fashion.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following :

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding, Mechanical, Electrical, or other related Engineering field with demonstrated experience in the core competencies of Welding Fabrication of 3 years or more.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and demonstrated implementation of the lean principles & key performance indicators.
  • Working knowledge of industry welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, RSW, and Stud Welding.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel to analyze operational metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, to clearly present ideas in a variety of forums.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprint and CAD Drawings including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with Tool Design and Tool Building, and its application with welding and fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with Robotic programming and its application with welding and fabrication processes.
  • Technical knowledge of welding processes, equipment, and / or support services and other relevant manufacturing activities.

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

  • Standing : Most tasks are performed in a standing position.
  • Lifting : Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 40 lbs.
  • Walking : Moderate walking of distances up to 1 mile around the S&C Campus.
  • Carrying : Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs.
  • Pushing : Occasional use of an electric hand truck and pushing to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Pulling : Occasional use of an electric hand truck and pulling to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Bending : Frequent bending and crouching required to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Reaching : Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees to reach for items.
  • Handling : Continuous handling of parts and tools to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Environment : Working environment that of a manufacturing / fabrication company including the use of heavy industrial equipment, and arc welding machines.

JOB SUMMARY

S&C’s Power Systems Solution Retrofit group designs upgrades to various existing product lines currently Metal Enclosed Switchgear.

Our portfolio of products include a wide range of applications for customers including electric utilities and industrial / commercial power users.

In this job, you will report to the Manager Custom Engineering Retrofits.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Using 3-D modeling software to develop new parts, assemblies and drawing updates.
  • Working with the sales team to develop custom retrofit features for existing products.
  • Creating and maintaining mechanical designs, engineering documents, and bill of materials associated with existing and new products, being responsible for mechanical functionality of assigned projects.
  • Integrating S&C automation products with other electronics and custom assemblies to meet customer specifications.
  • Working with Electrical Designers on solutions to package various electronic devices.
  • Preparing detailed drawings for customer approval, manufacturing, replacement parts and as builts.
  • Working with manufacturing, field service and production to answer questions about the design, fabrication and qa of assemblies / retrofit kits.
  • Working within a team environment including interacting with other design professionals and members of the sales team, business development services, production control, manufacturing, and assembly groups.
  • Troubleshooting complex customer problems / upgrades and developing solutions to design challenges.
  • Managing projects to improve internal processes and designs.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following :

  • A BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (3 plus years in field)
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD systems, specifically 3D modeling, preferably SolidEdge.
  • Knowledge of design, manufacturing and creating 3D models, preferably with sheet metal
  • Good PC skills including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word. Experience with MS Access a plus.
  • General knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Outstanding communications and organizational skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, well organized, and skilled decision maker that is comfortable in a fast-paced design and manufacturing environment.
