  • Maintain and update various spreadsheets.

The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Cleaners perform a variety of tasks involving medium to heavy physical effort associated with the cleaning and caring for assigned areas and ensuring a safe, clean, and hygienic environment is maintained.

  • Primarily assigned to patient care areas, Cleaners wash walls, bathrooms, dining rooms, floors, corridors, stairs, and stairwells;
  • clean spilled bodily fluids and collect and transport waste within specific guidelines associated with infection control and safety;

clean and polish furniture; and move furniture in preparation for cleaning. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.

One year of permanent state service as an Environmental Educator 2.

For Provisional Appointment :

Either 1. one year of permanent competitive or 55-b / 55-c service as an Environmental Educator 1.

Or 2. Four years of experience in environmental conservation in a professional / technical capacity or professional teaching of environmental education* AND two years of experience teaching or interpreting the natural world AND two years additional experience in environmental education as defined below.

Or 3. Two years of the experience described above AND 60 college semester credit hours, including at least 24 college semester credit hours in biology (for the purpose of this position, courses that focus on the study of domesticated or farm animals or humans are not qualifying), earth science, ecology, environmental education, environmental science, field natural history, forestry, geology, marine science, natural resources interpretation, or soil science.

AND two years additional experience in environmental education as defined below*.

The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Under the general direction of the New York City Regional Director or designee, the Environmental Educator 2 manages region-wide environmental programs by performing the following duties :

  • Directs programs, maintenance and administration, including support activities and staff;
  • Develops, conducts, publicizes, and evaluates environmental education courses and interpretive programs, including :
  • oPreparing lesson plans for a wide range of ages and groups;
  • oDeveloping teaching aids and exhibits;
  • oEvaluating current programs, teaching and publicity materials, exhibits, and collections;

oDetermining the need for revisions and modifications; and

oSupervising the implementation of new and revised programs and materials.

  • Develops, prepares, and revises non-teaching environmental education programs, materials, audiovisual programs, and exhibits by :
  • oConducting research;
  • oDeveloping themes and exhibits;

oPreparing and writing informational materials and illustrations for publication; and

oMaintaining and modifying exhibits, publications, audiovisual programs, and other material with regional approval.

  • Plans and conducts workshops for teachers and staff about environmental education programs and concepts;
  • Acquires, catalogs, and maintains specimens and other teaching materials for programs;
  • Plans and conducts special events and courses in support of environmental programs, including :
  • oRecruiting volunteers;
  • oPlanning, organizing, and publicizing events;

oContracting for equipment, performers, and presenters; and

oPurchasing and preparing materials.

  • Supervises and evaluates program staff;
  • Researches and surveys natural and environmental history and concerns;
  • Manages and administers collections and exhibits;
  • Works with representatives from schools, colleges, organizations, and the public to promote the facilities and programs;
  • Requests and allocates resources for program implementation;
  • Develops alternate sources of funding for programs; and
  • Performs a variety of administrative activities to support programs.
  • The incumbent will supervise various seasonal and permanent staff assigned to the Environmental Education Team region-wide;

will work closely with other park personnel, volunteers, and vendors; and will be required to work at other State Parks within the NYC region as needed to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.

The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Press Secretary in External Affairs and Strategy.

Under the general direction of the Executive Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Deputy Superintendent of External Affairs and Strategy, the Press Secretary plans and assists with coordinating DFS communication and media operations.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following :

  • Formal spokesperson for the agency for media inquiries;
  • Develops and maintains relationships with financial services media outlets;
  • Develops and executes external communications efforts; identifies opportunities to support organizational initiatives; develops communications materials and plans community programs to promote and publicize these activities;
  • Collaborates with Executive team in the development of strategic communications plans to support DFS's mission, goals, and objectives;
  • Drafts, reviews and edits communications materials including news releases, news materials, talking points, opinion pieces, online content, external education programs, and annual reports;
  • Researches and prepares responses to inquiries from local and national press; tracks relevant press coverage, including social media activity;
  • Supervises and manages members of the communications team including media affairs, social media, public engagement, and speechwriting : The candidate should have experience managing and supervising team members of varying experience, and be able to offer them strategic guidance, feedback and insight;
  • Oversees coordination of Legislative and External Affairs relationships agency-wide and promotes improvements that advance the mission of DFS and progress toward policies that are more impactful, inclusive, and equitable;
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with government officials and community stakeholders and navigates complex issues with multiple constituencies with differing perspectives and needs;
  • Supports media activities with the Governor’s press office, other state agencies and relevant outside entities concerning press events and activities;
  • Acts as a primary liaison to the Governor’s press office, other state agencies, and other relevant outside entities concerning press events;
  • Performs advance logistics duties in preparation of upcoming public engagements and acts as DFS liaison to ensure seamless coordination for staging events with various public officials; and
  • Performs other related duties as directed and assigned by Executive Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Deputy Superintendent.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and at least five years of communications and public affairs experience.
  • Ability to work flexible work hours as needed, and travel may be required.
  • Strong writing experience and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships and work closely with executive staff.
  • Knowledge of effectively and collaboratively directing a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong relationships with financial services media.
  • Government and financial services industry experience preferred.

Under supervision, the Hourly Horticulturist is responsible for assisting in performing all horticulture field operations at locations throughout Battery Park City Authority owned Parks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

The Hourly Horticulturist will be expected to perform reasonable duties assigned to them by team leaders and senior staff.

  • Assist with horticultural tasks as requested, and use the best horticultural practices to help maintain and beautify BPC Parks
  • Assist with organic plant care including awareness and communication of plant health, physiological, and pest-related issues
  • Assist in caring for the soil
  • Remove litter and help maintain the highest appearance standards
  • Under supervision, assist with the safe and effective operation of equipment
  • Work independently, effectively, and safely on gardening tasks, including weeding, planting, mowing, edging, watering, and other horticultural tasks as requested
